Me and my Dad are going to start a small, small food plot to attract deer into a certain area. Any tips on the subject? Things that will help with it. The spot we are thing of is a flat top of a hill with wooded area all around and sloaping downt he hill clear trees and leave enought? Any thoughts?

Make sure it's big enough so the sunlight can reach it. Most plants will grow with at least 4 hours of sunshine. More would be better The tree roots are gonna suck out a lot of moisture from your plot too. The bigger the better. If possible do a soil test and amend the soil to what you plant.

My suggestion would be clover. Clover likes a lot of lime and if your plot is in the middle of the woods it will be pretty acidic from the leaves. Put down plenty of lime well in advance and work it in if possible.

I see your location is IL. If that's where your doing your food plot, minerals and that type of thing are ILLEGAL!! Don't get :busted:. Just sayin.:tu:

To me its depends on what you want to do with it. Are you looking to hunt over it, something early season or later. Is it easy to get to to plant. All this comes in to play.
