I'll start off by saying it feels good to be back in a tree with bow in hand. It was a slow opener for the Hotter/Plummer team this weekend. The first month of the season is going to be tough for mike and I, mike is working 6 days week and will only be able to hunt mornings. I will be out every chance I get, if I can find someone to film. Yesterday I did make it out in the morning and afternoon. In the morning I had Jeremy Nelson filming me. We set up in a natural ground blind close to a bedding area hoping to catch the deer returning from the field. At 7:15 we had a little buck come through at 55 yards. We didn't see it too long and it was gone. The woods are pretty thick. That was all we saw opening morning. The afternoon hunt I had Adam Matzek filming me. The afternoon hunt, we were set up over looking a bean field. I have been seeing deer regularly in this field before dark, but nothing appeared to feed. At 6:20 we had 2 does come running into the field. They were kicked up from the neighboring corn field that was being chopped. I thought at one moment they were going to continue running in are direction, but did not. They were well out of bow range. If we were sitting in our other set on this property, I might have had a shot at one of the does. That was the only action we had Saturday afternoon. All in all it was a great day, I just wish the weather would cooperate and cool down. I didn't hunt today due to this hot weather. This week I plan on getting some afternoon hunts in after I get done with class. Mike will be hunting tomorrow morning so hopefully he can get us on the board. Jordan
I sat on sat morning and evening, didn't even see a deer. The woods are really thick and I did hear some movment but nothing ever came out of the thick stuff. In the PM I heard some splashing from a nearby waterhole (yeah I should have set up there). I spent sunday morning hanging a few new stands (near the waterhole) and at a large trail intersection. Oh well, next time out. It was good getting back in a tree again!
I agree with the slow opener in Wisconsin. opening morning we didn't see anything. Sunday afternoon since it was so hot we sat over a pond. There were also acorns dropping like crazy. Saw a couple of does and wacked one on film. I guess it was a good way to start off the season anyways, maybe another doe kill and were going to start going after the big boys! Good luck!
Way to hot for my likings! The acorns were raining down like mad! We had a few deer in range but no shots ops. My sons 1st time bowhunting he had a Doe at about 20 yards 25 minutes in, but I think he got a bit of "doe" fever! :D He said he didn't feel good about the shot which is fine with me! I couldn't tell from my angle!
