We have had some crazy wind, here, too. The neighboring fields by my house just finished cutting down their fields yesterday. I think it's going to be a crappy year for crops in my area.

Shouldn't be long before our crops start going in. Always a busy/great time of the year. On a side note... It's Thursday already, and tomorrow is Friday.

My girlfriends parents own a Golden Plump chicken barn (the commercial kind that hold 50,000+ chickens).

We have had the birds for about 5 weeks and they are about to go out next Wednesday so it has been crazy busy lately. One thing that is starting to get us worried is the Avian Bird Flu that has been hitting the turkey flocks here in MN (1.5 millions birds have had to be killed). Just last week there was a barn in SE WI where chickens that laid eggs got the virus... Granted it wasn't Golden Plump chickens, it is still becoming a scary topic around home.

Mn, you guys hatch the birds for her parents? I'd never survive with a bunch of them. I have two baby turkey right now, and getting two more this weekend. Granted, they've been good, I just couldn't do a lot of them. But, definately would be a scary topic - especially with flocks like that. One gets it and rest are contaminated.

Ton of guys going around here starting Monday this week. We started at work on April 3 and home today.

22 separate cases now I believe.

We get the chicks delivered when they are a day or two old.

Sota - The birds weigh amywhere from 5-7lbs roughly? Every day we pick up the dead ones and a tall 5 gallon bucket holds about 6 birds.

Been a long, slow, boring week here. Weather is nice.. low 70's, sunny, not a cloud in the sky.. and my Harley is sitting at home in the garage because I have to the adult thing and go to work.. :whip:

Weekend looks good too.. low 80's Saturday and upper 70's Sunday. Perfect weather for a ride or 3.

Agreed. I am sure SOTA doesn't like being away from home so much.. but you do what you have to do to pay the bills and make ends meet. My wife works nights as a bartender, I work days in the corporate world. It sucks, but it's a job and we do what he have to do. Personally, I hate my job, but the money and benefits are good.

Pink Pony.. what area of PA are you from? I used to live in central, PA

Sitting here looking at the weather forecast for my first turkey hunt next week in Indiana and it looks like it it going to be a wet one.

Its been a pretty slow week. I finished up some inventory reporting and had a few conference calls but it really has been kind of quiet. Usually that's never a good thing as I imagine I will get slammed with emails next week before I go on vacation for a few days.

I tried posting last night and it told me network failure, then I brought it up and showed the same message four times. Now it shows nothing!

Bowhunter - I'm in the NW corner of the state.

That's crazy. I imagine that is probably harder then the dairy farms, but in just as much demand. I went to DE two years ago - that's another state with a ton of chicken barns! Farmers get all the credit in my book! I only raise enough for the family (turkey, few chicken, pig, and cow) - that's plenty of work for me!

PinkPony - Ah.. I was from Cumberland County, hunted Perry County mostly. Did make a trip to Potter County for a hunt once.. Early morning, sun is just starting to light up the woods and I saw an elk from a distance. At first, I thought I was seeing the biggest whitetail ever and I got all excited.. until I saw the antlers and that signature dark brown neck. LOL.

Tackle, I am glad it looks like you have the same problem I did, post not showing up then double posting (or me triple). But, I don't wanna hear what your hunting has been like! Ugh ;)! Good luck though! Our season opens in two weeks.

I am sure it was a gorgeous site though! I'd love to take a trail ride through Elk County and see Elk just roaming!
