I've been shooting Slick Trick 125 Magnums for three years now and I think they're fantastic. This year I didn't feel like driving to BPS so since I was ordering some stuff from Amazon I ordered three packs of replacement blades. I got them in and these blades, while not really dull, weren't scary sharp like they usually are. Also, I've killed two does with them and both times a blade broke off. Yes, both shots hit the off-side leg, but I've shattered legs with Slick Tricks and not seen any damage. The only shot I've made before this year that ruined a Slick Trick was two years ago when a buck ducked my shot and the arrow hit Missouri granite. I thought back to a report I heard earlier this year about fake Rage heads being sold online, so I wondered if this might be the problem. I sent Slick Trick an e-mail letting them know about this. I don't want anything and didn't ask for anything. I didn't complain. I just asked if perhaps what I'd heard about fake Rage heads might be happening with Slick Tricks. If it is I thought they might like to know about it, or at least know about the problems I had. I haven't seen a response from them. I've tried to call a couple times each day and all I get is voicemail. I leave messages and don't get a return call. That's discouraging to me. I base my opinion of a company on two things: The quality of the product and the customer service. Slick Tricks are great heads and I love them, but they're striking out on customer service. Maybe they're just busy, but three days is enough time to at least respond. I did order two more packs of blades, but I ordered them from Bass Pro. They arrived today scary sharp and ready to go. I threw the others away.
You have to be very careful when buying stuff on Amazon, eBay etc. Know of a few occasions where people bought what they thought was the name brand stuff and on inspection and calling the manufacturers was either b-stock that was out of spec that should have never made it out of the factory or clones put in their packaging. I can't help you with an explanation on the service though.
The company was just sold. That maybe the reason for the disconnect in communication. As for the product performance I can't say, I don't use them.
Ugh. That sucks. I hope they keep the same quality. Just when I found a head I was completely 100% happy with.
They used to have great costumer service. I had issues with the o rings before they sent me brand new pack at no charge. Give them a call.
Slick trick changed suppliers for blades a few times. You might have gotten a pack from the old supplier. the blades now seem to be ok. Not as good as the orgininals but not bad.
I must have gotten lucky. I've bought probably 10 packs from various sources this year and all have flown like darts.
That's really the sticking point for me. I've called quite a few times with no response. If that's the case it would explain this situation. Thanks for the information. The old blades flew good, of course. They just weren't sharp and the bent and broken blades were a huge surprise to me. The new blades I just received from Bass Pro seem to be just as sharp as I remember Slick Tricks being. Hopefully I get to see how they perform in Kentucky and Missouri starting tomorrow. Still, having been in some form of customer service my entire life, it's a huge thing for me. I've left messages and sent an e-mail. Hopefully they respond because if I don't get a response from them at all I'll be looking for another broadhead to use.
I've been trying to contact them lately as well (it wasn't a product related issue) but only get voicemail and no return call. The buyout would explain why. The Outdoor Group is a good company. They own Elite, Scott Releases, CBE, and Solid Broadheads. They'll take Slick Trick to a whole new level and I can't imagine quality of the product will suffer. Sounds like bad luck on the blades and possibly due to quality control being overlooked by upset employees thinking they just lost a job (speculation). Or, it could have been off brand replicas. Who knows. I'm sure things will be back to normal soon.
I am from Arkansas. The Slick Trick company was founded in Jonesboro, Arkansas by Gary Cooper. It started in his home and became an a true American dream story and great benefit to the local economy of Jonesboro. Unfortunately, Gary Cooper passed away due to illness in 2013. My guess would be that without his leadership the company struggled with creating a plan to move forward and grow; thus, the partnership with The Outdoor Group. Give them the time to sort through the transition and they should be running back at normal or better. I do not know the family personally, however, I know friends of the family. They seem to be outstanding salt-of-the earth people whom are highly respected in the hunting communities of Arkansas.
