hey guys, i've decided to go away from rage 2-blade because i haven't been getting too good of results, and they're $40 a pack. i've narrowed it down to what i think are 3 good broadheads, although i haven't shot any of them. I've been looking at the muzzy 3-blade, slick trick magnum, and the magnus stinger. they all seem to have good reviews where i look, but i wanted the opinions of the pros :moose: thanks guys

Bad to the bone....... Have taking bucks does hogs and turkey with the same blade. The Wife just got back from WI and smacked a 230lb buck and hit the other shoulder. After skinning the broad head was good to go and ready to use again. Other would cracked after hitting something that hard.

I have not shot Muzzys but I have shot Magnus Stingers, Buzzcuts and Slick Trick Razortricks.

Stingers and Buzzcuts (two blade with the little bleeders blades). They are an excellent performing head that will fly exactly with your field points, are razor sharp right out of the package, and are an extremely tough head. They carry a lifetime warranty so if you break a head, pay the buck or two for shipping and they will send you a brand new $10 head. I have never had a stinger or buzzcut not pass through a deer except 1 which was this years buck. I shot the buck with a buzzcut that shattered and went through his offside leg bone, not the shoulder blade, but the actual leg bone. The arrow hung out the other side. The blade was bent but if I wanted I know I could get it replaced. The one and only con I have ever had with these heads is their lack of decent blood trails. Although all the deer I have taken with them are full of blood inside the cavity, the cut the main blad makes with that little bleeder just does not open up enough of a hole to get good blood or its a hole that is easily plugged by tissue. I know lots of factors contribute to why you may or may not get good blood, but I've hit enough deer in the sweet spot to know that I should have gotten at least one or two with a great blood trail, but it just doesnt happen, for me at least. The deer are dead, and usually within 100 yards, but there will come a time that a good blood trail is necessary and I just don't like what they give. Between the two though, I'd go with the buzzcut each time as it seems to produce more damage.

Razor Trick...another great head that is razor sharp, flies like a field point and will open up and provide a little bit better blood trail. My only complaint about the razortrick is that the tip of the main blade seems a little bit fragile and has a tendancy to bend over when it hits anything hard. Thats said, you'd probably replace the blades anyway after a kill, but when they started bending over during practice, i didnt like that. I know the blade design was changed on the razor trick this year so they may have become stronger.

Next year I'm going with the Slick Trick Mag as I have seen some of the holes it has produced. If I do nto like them, I'm probably headed back to my security blanket which is the buzzcut, because I know they are great heads, but hey, who doesnt enjoy a spraying bloodtrail once in a while :)

I am not a pro not have I shot the other broad heads you mention. What I can tell you is I have shot alot of broadheads over the years and have finally landed on muzzy 100 grain MX3. I can not belive the durabillity of these. They really do have bone crushing power. A couple of animal have proved it. (I will not go in to the detail here, but will tell you they will tear bone up) They are reasonbly priced and replaceable blades can be found about anywhere. If you do not looses them all you do is replace the blades. I do not think you can reck the rest of it.
    Again, just my opinion.

I'm a huge fan of the grizztricks (by slick trick). they're not the sturdiest but they fly absolutely amazing, have a 1 1/4 diameter and 4 blades. They're also razor sharp. The new grizztrick 2 have even stronger blades so I'm going with them next year.

IF Rage's arent giving you the blood trail you desire, I dont think any of the heads you mentioned will be better. People always look for the head with the best bloodtrail, and thats fine to do, just always keep in mind there are so many other factors that play into a good blood trail than the broadhead your using. Shot angle, exit hole, guts, fat, bone, other tissues can all cause havoc and plug up a blood trail. Heck a shotgun slug sometimes doesnt leave anything for a blood trail.

Shot a doe last year with a 2 inch three blade expandable... No blood trail at all... the deer only went 25 yards. Point is that I agree that shot placement is key... sometimes deer move a little and your perfect shot hits bone and you just don't seem to get a good blood trail. In my case I hit the opposite shoulder on an quartering shot and had no exit wound. The deer died before the cavity could fill up with blood. None of us should expect a cure all with any of the heads mentioned... they are all great.

Muzzy's have given me great blood trails however... I prefer the 4 bladed 115s.

All 3 are good heads. I've shot them all and they all fly great if your bow is tuned. For me though, I'd go with a Muzzy, either 3 or 4 blade. With the STs I didn't like the hiss they make when flying, I no this isn't an issue as many critters have fallen to a ST but it bothered me :) The Stingers do fly great and their warranty can't be beat but the blood trail seem to be a bit sparse with them and solid bone can and will stop them dead, sometimes. The Muzzys are tried and true and penetrate very well and if they hit bone they generally just blow it right out of the way with that tip up front. With all that said I've been shoot Grim Reapers for awhile and have no reason to change. Entry and exits hole are generally huge, blood trials are heavy, and they penetrate just as well and better in some cases than the fixed heads I have used. Grim Reaper's fix head, the Hades, is a great head as well. Very stout and super sharp right out of the pack.

I have shot the ST magnums for several years using them on deer and hogs. This Year I switched to Muzzy MX4 and I will not go back to ST's. Nothing against ST other than I get 6 Muzzy's for just a little more than what 3 ST's cost. As far as blood trails go, I have found better blood after the shot with Muzzy's than with the ST mags specifically on hogs. I did have to do some tweaking on my bow to get the MX4's to shoot same POI as my FP's but it took all of 10 minutes to do this.

As far as Razor tricks go, I had the tips bend on all of mine so I quit using them.

Tried Slick Trick for the first time this year and wasn't disappointed. I highly recommend them. Very durable. Alot of the guys I hunt with use the Rage BH with great results but I like the fixed blade myself. Remember it's about shot placement. You can kill a deer with a field point if you hit it right. Doesn't matter how big the cutting area is if you don't make a clean shot. Good luck!

I use Muzzy MX-3s. They fly good and all but they break A LOT easier than other broadheads I've tried. I think it has to do with the fact that the ferrule is really thin between the blades and the tip screws onto that. The Slicktrick Magnums have similar design but the blades fit in differently and I think they would hold up better than that just by design. I will be moving to them next year just because I have broken 2 out of 3 MX-3s without even shooting a deer yet.

The differance between the muzzys which I used for years and the slick trick mags I'm going to use from here on out is, Muzzy has alum ferral, thinner blades, slick tricks steel ferral and thicker blades. Both are razor crazy sharp both will work well, but the slick tricks built a little more solid. Both have a great tip the ST mags and Muzzy MX 4's.
