You guys are crazy...we have deer like that all around our NC woods. So any of you crazy people in the mid west, I'll offer a land swap.
Hmmmm...I'll jump on the BS bandwagon. Seems like a stunt to try and launch this kids "career" in the hunting industry, or promote the magical mineral he's using...I see a young deer with a bleached 242" rack...congrats to the hunter if it's real, but I'm guessing this story isn't all truth
Heard from some friends that an unusually large deer killed in north Florida that had been an escapee a managed facility. makes for an impressive mount but skews the books on wild deer.
A monster of a deer.. But as others have pointed out the chances of this being a legit free range deer is pretty minimal. As was mentioned, the color of the rack, the age of the deer and the story in itself throws out all kinds of red flags. I'm not going to bash anyone with out proof, but it's hard to give this hunter (if you can call him that) the benefit of the doubt in this case.
That's a very generous offer. Can't believe you'd be willing to downgrade to Iowa, Kansas or the likes.
Yes I live about 45 min from thair and deer that size is not normal abig 8 point yes but that's size naww I just don't see it if they are free rang,we can take 6 deer a year so pretty sure someone would have shot them long before they got that big!!
When this photo/story was going around the Facebook group Trail Cam Junkies, I saw them..they were nice deer too, believable at least. But I don't know anyone that lives in this region and can kill multiple deer over 150" in one year. I tried looking for the pics to post on this thread but cannot seem to find them.
I saw the pic earlier this week after talking to a guy from the DNR at the Archery Shop. He said one of the head guy from the DNR was headed to Surry County to see the deer and do some investigating last Thursday. I hope it is legit and if so congrats to him. If not, I don't think he will live it down for a long time.
Found these on 704 outdoors on facebook. Doesn't say he's not mounting it or anything, but it's obvious he won't be using the original cape.
I say dont even give the kid a chance to speak. Lets grab the torches and pitchforks and head to NC!!!! Burn him at the stake! <------(joking). I agree though BS
Haha, Oh my gosh.... He certainly doesn't do anything to argue against it being illegitimate. Why the hell would anyone kill a deer like that and chop the skull cap off without peeling the cape away? Because it had ear tag holes.... I hope they shame the crap out of this kid for trying to game the system, if that's the case.
Saw this story on NChuntandfish last week... I've been skeptical too. It's far and few between to grow a deer like that, even in the big buck states. So for NC to grow a non-typical like that....yea right...
No one in their right mind would harvest a buck like that and just hack the antlers off with the cape still attached. Especially a guy that has killed a number of nice animals in the past.... Just to many things add up for it not to be BS. I'd say the guy needs to prove it is legitimate before it can be entered as a record. Who doesn't harvest an animal like that and take field pics?
If he is found to be a fraud any entries in the books are removed and the member is no longer able to enter a deer, not that matters to a deer shopper.
The red flag comes up for me in how the skull was taken off the head. NO ONE does this to a buck they intend to mount. Some of the suspicions on why it was cut off like that do make sense. The story also has raised some questions as well. In any event, I'm sure the truth will come out.
