well, talked to a neighbor guy that bow hunts. he took a 9 ptr off the neighbor's property a few weeks ago. which is ok, cuz the 8 ptr I spoke about on an earlier post I saw last week. I'm hearing that guys are starting to see the real big bucks out and about because of gun season. I'm hoping to hit it next week.

I am back out again so let’s see what happens! Question for everyone!

If you only have a small 5 acre pasture that runs north south would you play the wind to hunt said property? With only really weekends to hunt and that small of property I don’t see the chance to play wind since if you do play wind then you are sitting on the couch at home since no other spot to hunt! The guy that hunts by me plays wind like that! I do my best to be scent free and you can not kill a deer on the couch! If I had bigger timber then yes I would have stands for every wind direction. BUT I don’t so I hunt and do the best I can! That yearling doe came in down wind and knew something was not right but was 10 yards away! I have 52 kills on my belt so I feel that I am doing something right! Three big bucks on wall also!

Personally I agree about get out and try. Do best scent control prior and minimize but could not hold out for limited perfect timing. Definitely has potential to mess things up, but I think better to make the best of it and try.

I don’t hunt if that wind isn’t right. It’s proven no matter how much scent control you use, deer can still smell you. The only caveat to this is the rut. I believe bucks can come from any direction unless the property prevents it.

Obviously, you’re doing something better than most. Haha

If wind is totally wrong I don’t hunt. Marginal I will.
Shot another buck last night. My daughter missed a big one. I feel terrible. Now she knows the Highs and lows.
Last light a hefty buck came in. She couldn’t get a shot off since she’s a lefty and it came my side. She begged me to shoot it so I did. Last night with bow for season. She was pumped. Hefty buck w broken side. Would have been small 8 pt I assume. IMG_4792.JPG

Congrats on another nice kill Western. Definitely a successful season for deer down. Sorry to hear it didn’t work out for her. Hopefully she’s not too down on it and just excites her for next chance. Sometimes maybe better getting the rough part down first so can have the highs to move up to and not start on a huge high to crash down from. Glad you got the other for her, hope that eased the feeling some

Agreed. She was 4 for 4 prior. So this is just a reality check for her. She’ll get out more w gun and hopefully will connect. I’m proud of her. She was really excited that we still got one together. Time spent outdoors is what matters. IMG_4801.JPG

That is awesome taken my kids but they all have lost interest. Now need to work on grand baby. Nothing last night or this morning so far! Think that shotgun pushed out for time being. Next weekend is second season for shotgun so we will see. I tagged out already for shotgun so will be watching from sideline. Hope something comes by tonight or tomorrow. Rained pretty good so ground is soft and quiet.

Plus weather has warmed back up in mid 40’s and high for today is supposed to be 51 so that could be part of problem too

That’s awesome. Looks plenty happy with it. Sometimes it’s about the best thing having that. Hope to see she comes back with more fun times and maybe getting the missed one. It’ll mean even more then

Sorry boys. Been Mia a bit. Works been crazy as I am now officially off for two weeks. Baby number 2 is coming this week so had lots of planning to do. I still have a tag in my pocket but I doubt I'll be in a stand until late December at best. Gonna try catching a late season buck. Sometimes it's been my best time of year to hunt.

Well, this mornings hunt got cancelled for me and hope to make it out this afternoon. We are expecting a lot of snow but that is not why. I dropped my phone in the garage last night and shattered the screen. Have to run to get it fixed today I hope. Phone had an Otter box on it also and it still broke. What a piece of SH** the Otter Box is when it does not do what it is said to do.
