    Got score posted.

I shot that deer Friday night, we had just got permission to hunt on new piece. I had been hunting another deer all week and I needed a change of scenery. So I scouted/hunted through this new piece. I ended up finding a deer highway so I just set up on the ground behind an old pile of barbwire fence, dirt and trees that dozed over near this trail.

So just before 5 o’clock I had a doe come in from my weak side with no cover but she couldn’t make me so she circled around down wind and still couldn’t get a whiff. So I finally stood up and tried to scare her away. She ran back probably 20 yards and she started coming back at me. Then I see movement back where I figured the deer would be coming from and a couple does were jumping the fence going out away from me. Then I hear a couple deep grunts from behind the pile.

I turn and grab my bow and 5 yards away this buck’s head comes around the tree by this pile I’m sitting by and I see antlers. We lock eyes and he spooks back behind the pile then he starts working his way around me at around 15 yds and I drew and put a arrow through him. He only went about 60yds.

That was my 4th buck off the ground with no blind. I just love that feeling.

That sounds like a exciting hunt. Congrats again. Taking deer when on the ground and that close really get the blood pumping.

awesome Wake. That sounds like a nail biter! Congrats again on a fine buck.

The buck I shot yesterday is the 8 I have had on camera all summer / early fall. He was actually the buck I have after. I know he's not big by most guys standards, but he is for around here.
Yesterday was cold with a heavy frost and virtually no wind. By far the best day we've had this season. I have had very little activity on my cameras, and what little activity I have had has been mostly nocturnal. Very few does on cam either.
I got set up and hour before daylight and put out some estrous. Around 7:15 am I did a blind can call and less than 5 minutes later I catch movement up above me on the ridge across from the brook i'm sitting on. I can't hear due to the brook noise since we've had so much rain (washout here today too...surprise). He read the script and came down the side and crossed the brook on a natural crossing funnel and came right onto the shelf I am set up on and went right to the scent. I shot him at about 15 yards.

Congrats on her first buck RB!!!! My apologies for not saying that earlier. So awesome for both of you!

Sorry I didn't have this one as my first of season for the contest. Prob would have given us another 40 points or so... obviously bigger than my Fergie from last week.

Thank you. It is her second buck and her biggest to date. I am going to have to talk to her about holding out for bigger bucks from now on. She loves hunting. I am going to give her my crossbow and get an upgrade for myself.

Nice ILL!!! I've seen a pile of hens this year during bow, but no toms. I did have a nice bearded hen in front of me Monday AM though.
Unfortunately, Fall turkey ended here last Sat.
I hope to get out tomorrow afternoon and maybe Sat AM. Maybe i'll whack that bear I saw or another buck.
I have my sights set on a big 8 behind the house... or for one of my daughters once gun season starts (Monday after Thanksgiving). Bucks only behind the house. No doe tag for that zone, plus, when I bought my house from my father right before he passed he made me promise to not shoot "his does". A promise is a promise. He seems to send them by me more frequently then years past recently! haha...

ILL, you get that buck entered yet? Even if you put the pic up in scorecard post and put score TBD.

I just ran home for an early lunch and had a big bowl of venison chili w/ Italian bread and butter in front of the fire. Dusting of snow last night. high 20s today with 20+mph winds... pleasant... lol

I head out for Southern Illinois for Shotgun season. I hunt by Mt Vernon, IL and hope to fill two tags there and then I have to come home to get my BIG buck with my bow. I have Thanksgiving Day off and the day after so I will hunt Thanksgiving morning, Friday after morning and afternoon, then both morning and afternoon hunts on that Saturday and Sunday. I hope to get him then. They are starting to move a lot here in central IL. More than what they have been the past couple of weeks. I sure hope my big boys stay safe here over the weekend.
