    Think it’ll be a good trial anyway. Next year gonna try a few more trees and get more than a taste. Think get like 1/80 to 1/100 syrup with these birch so won’t be getting tons made. Maple would make like twice as much. Was hoping to make enough syrup for tomorrow’s breakfast with today’s but kids took my attention and when it got down to last bit guess I didn’t turn it down when needed so scorched it. Hopefully it’s running for a few more days. Worse case did get a taste and gotta say I like it, and nice and easy to do

    Turkeys have been kicking my a$# this season so far... but it's early. I have taken a couple of big walks near my favorite spot and have found a couple new stand locations.

    Hope turkeys come through for you western. Glad it’s working out for some deer prep.
    Pretty much nothing here yet. Too many little things sucking up time, good and bad. Did finally get some mineral out and brief 15 min ride through woods. I’ll call that my shed hunting/scouting for now. Hoping to start getting ready for ground prep soon and hope the plots can come decent this year. Now that weathers been improving and getting outside some again finally getting more the feeling of it again

    I'm not a turkey hunter. Car shows are my springtime hobby. My truck took second in class Saturday. [IMG]

    Turro (& anyone else)
    Please explain to me what you do for mineral sites. Do you hunt over them?

    For mine these last few years just been dumping some cheap mineral on a few of the stumps/ground where I’ve been doing for a while. Been trying a few kinds. I do have to get some more monster rax again. When I used that I’d dump some mixed with some of the cheaper generics on these spots about every month, sometimes stir the dirt around. The stumps and ground usually get hit pretty hard as soon as thawed til maybe July, then kinda quiet or no real extra draw. Usually stick a cam near for inventory. I’ve got them on small plots so just more general draw to the area til they grow in and they’re used to roaming that area. My stands are on them, but I don’t think by season I’ve seen them really care about touching them, but months before they hit good. My thought is better nutrition for developing time for fawns and racks. We can’t use mineral with food or food bait for hunting, has to be completely cleared 10 days prior, so probably just the timing kinda phase they don’t really care for salt and stuff by then when things are grown in but I usually figure if the benefit is done by then it’s worth it. Deer have seemed better built, larger, racks I’d say seemed best when regular monster rax, I’ve just been too cheap with things for now to get that going right again but do have belief in it. Probably for next season again. Just kinda feel like want to keep something out there even if not best. I figure if it adds some health and size it’s a justifiable expense, and helps get their travel on track for season even if ignored for it.

    A neighbor uses water softener salt and said they hit it hard. Little cheaper than others. Under $10 for like 70# or so. I’ve went as low as generic “trace minerals”, almost straight salt with little added minerals, think it’s like a cattle one for under $10 for 50#.

    I just checked in here and realized what a dynasty of a team this is. I’m pretty pumped to share another season with you guys.

    That is all. :beer::chewy:

    Worth trying for sure and see how it goes. Worst case if complete failure it’s not much time or cost invested. Best case might be the little extra nutrients to add some antler size, body size for extra meat, maybe help extra fawns or sick Deer survive, and have a spot for some early scouting/inventory. I’ve been letting shortsighted cheapness keep to just the generic stuff but planning next year to get more Monster Raxx and see how it goes again. Next time I go out to my spots I’ll take some pics if I remember. Kinda cool how some of the spots I hadn’t refreshed for a year or so the stumps are destroyed or ground still hit.
