Moved my trailcam on Friday after seeing a fresh, yet small scrape. This afternoon I checked the cam and came up with this guy. At first I said, too young and too small. But, now I am wondering if he is just not very good, because I thought is body seems a little bit mature? Is he young or just not very good?
wish I had a better pic, but this is the better of the two pics I got of him. Should I let my son or wife take him, or is there hopes that he could be a stud some day?
He is young and has a lot of growing in him yet...rack isn't perfectly symetrical, maybe even a little wacky but I like character racks. He'll have some decent size to him in a couple years(even next year possible) but you'll never know if he gets shot..
We this is about an 18 acre wood lot on a 40 acre farm. I have seen a 12 pointer at least once a year for three years and have heard he is still around. A neighbors farm just gave up a 17 pointer, so I think we could take a doe or two and nail some coyotes but we will let this one go for a year or two. Thanks for the input. I feared that he we was 3 1/2 already and the maybe he just din't have very good genetics?
2 1/2 for sure, and I don't think there's anything wrong with his rack, g2 just looks broke off a couple inches. He'll turn out to be a good buck. Good luck on it either way man!
Land owner says he is small, so we agreed to let him go, but....then the shotgun season is coming and he will most likely never survive that? I am still dead against taking him, just wish everyone was on the same page
For an IL buck that looks like a 1 1/2 yr old to me. Neck and Belly look awfully skinny to be a 2 1/2. Just my opinion though.
well, for 1 1/2 he is not bad at all, for 2 1/2 he is ok, any older than that and he needs to go...just my thoughts
