I joined a lease in OHIO this year with 5 other guys. I've had 2 feeders going since July. The deal in previous years was anyone could hunt any stand as long as the owner wasn't hunting it. We have six food plots that I paid 1/6 the price of putting in. I had the discussion with the club that if anyone wanted to hunt my stands that they need to chip in on the corn and that killing one then slipping me some cash wasn't going to cut it. So this morning the club leader (my friend) gagged a nice 9 pointer from my stand that I just went up last weekend and freshened up. I've never recieved a dime from anyone. How would you handle this? I took off work early today to drive up and hunt this particular stand, now it's been jeopardized with the dragging etc etc. I'm pretty upset and this guy knows I'm mad from our phone call this morning. Thoughts?
Does the fact that we agreed that MY stands offer something that no one elses does, CORN, and everyone agreed that if they wanted to hunt them they needed to pitch in? I paid 1/6 of the price of the food plots, and 100% of the price of feeders and corn, how is that fair? Again, I understood the rules and they also understood the NEW rule.
Sounds to me like a lack of respect issue. Would a "friend" take advantage of you like that? I wouldn't. If I wasn't gonna pay you any $$ for your efforts and equipment.....I'd keep my ass out of your stands.
that always seems like thats the case when you share land with other guys. if i ever split land with others, i would have a written agreement when the following guys i share land with and signed.... you have to trust the guys you share land with thats for sure.
These are my feelings exactly. Of course the guy that killed it didn't feel that way, we just had a conversation in which he got mad and hung up on me. I'm on my in about an hour to see him face to face at the lease. Learn something new about people everyday.
Sharing land with big groups has It's negative effects. So does sharing land with close family members. I'm kinda dealing with an Issue this year that I've been expecting to happen for a long time. It sucks!!!!!! Time for you and I to get our OWN land. Problems solved then. lol! Best of luck NC with this!
ALot of truth in that statement, I've been saving for awhile. I've been diligently looking for a good 100ac tract for 2 years now and when I find it you can bet I'll pick it up.
True friends stand the test of time. At this point, you must ask yourself, "Is this guy a true friend?" His action speaks louder than his words. You may or may not have to suck up the entire expense (you positioned yourself to do that anyway). But, you have now been presented with a lesson. Gain from it and use that knowledge down the road. If it were me (a good friend), I'd be tossing in the do-ray-me without hesitation. Best of luck there amigo!
well that's different...the guy needs to pay up! personnally i don't think anyone should be hunting anyone elses stand..seems like your guys whole setup was asking for this day.
Your buddy's an ass. He was to lazy or cheap to pitch in he needs to cough up some money and the fact he compromised your stand also in turn killing your hunt. I hate people like that, I had a few hunting my land and got rid of them all. It's not worth the head ache.A good hunting partner would ask when are you planning on hunting and if he could hunt your stand.
understand where you are coming from, however, has anyone here not seen deer come to a food source after one was killed? heck i have friends that wacked big bucks back to back outta the same stand two days in a row.... and they high fived. i would tell him not to do it again, and give him a shot. if it happens again, then go from there
Time for a new rule.....you hang 'em.....you prep 'em....YOU hunt 'em!!! It would be different if all stands were equal with the same type food plots etc. that EVERYONE pitched in and planted, paid for and prepared, but this stand was obviously a different setup and should have been left for the one who did the work and paid for the feed....or at the very LEAST call and ask!! The words LAZY and SORRY come to my mind. I hate for this to be the way it opened for you and good luck this weekend!!
Is he willing to pay now? (I know you said this wasn't cool, but is he willing to pay now or just sticking to the "hey, you weren't here" thing?)
Exactly what I'm seeing here. A solution would be to use climbers... sounds like this guy would be too lazy to take one in and use it.
