How many days in a row do people sit in the same stand and if u shoot a deer how long till u go back to that stand Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Depends on the time of year. During the rut, I've shot a deer gutted it 40 yards from my stand and sat in the stand two days later and saw deer. I've sat in the same stand 3 days in a row before but after that I'll give it a few days off (about 5) before hunting it again.
You are going to get alot of different ranging answers on this one. I personally might hunt a stand a 2-3 days in a row especially during the rut.But I have several to choose from so I may hunt the same stand in the evening 3 days in a row but a different stand in the morning 3 days in a row. It all kind of depends on the action I am seeing and the wind/weather. If I want to let it "settle down" I normally wait a minimum of 3 days before I will hunt it again.
Depends on what your trying to accomplish, and where the stand is. If your trying to kill a mature buck and set up in his bedding area 5 days a week. He's going to get wise to ya quick. But if your hunting a field edge looking for a doe or young buck it probably won't matter as much Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I have an observation stand I can hunt as much as I need depending on the wind. It is on the downwind edge of the property and overlooks a good section of field edges.
I'd day that is closely related to how much of an impact you put into the area. If you are able to enter and exit with very minimal disturbance, you can hunt a stand a lot more days in a row.
I've sat 3-4 days in a row at the same stand on a lot of occasions. Doing dark to dark hunts during the rut tells you exactly what's going on in that specific area, and several days in a row of that assures you you've missed nothing.
It all depends on what your hunting (meat or Bone), what phase of the rut and where the stand is located. That being said, I still don't like spending any more than a couple of days in a stand without giving it a break. It's all about how much scent you leave in a given area. Duke had a good post on Ingress, Egress a few years ago that would be worth looking up. Most big bucks I have seen over the years are on a first sit in a new spot or a first sit after I have given a stand a break.
Depends on how clean entry/exit routes are, and what time of year it is. I've had setups in the past where I was hunting a specific satellite buck that was outside his core area but I knew he would cruise through a specific pinch every 3-4 days during the rut. I sat that spot 3 days and got a shot at him on the 3rd day.
I find it depends most on the stand itself. If the entry/exit are wicked clean and the wind works in your favor you can have success hunting it every day of the season. A good example would be if you had a creek that you could walk in and a crosswind that never got your scent to the deer. A lot of the reason hunting the same stand several days in a row has nothing to do with what's happening while you're in the stand, but what deer cross the path you took on the way in/out of the woods. Deer are still able to detect your presence days after you leave the woods.
I hunt with two hang ons. Ill usually go and sit in one from 6am till 10, then go to the other stand in the evening for 3-4 hours. Taking days off between often gives me more deer coming in as well.
on the farm i hunt, i have 2 stands and hunt them all season based on wind. the deer are used to seeing people walking, and do NOT live on the land -- they simply pass through from bedding to feeding and feeding to bedding
