Our gun season starts this weekend, and I will be out with my smoke pole. Thinking about sitting all day Saturday, but not sure where I should sit. I have about 15 acres of private land. It is bordered on 2 sides by a river, and along the river there is a strip of woods that is only about 20 yards wide. The rest of it is all CRP, with about 5 acres of it being an overgrown gavel pit. If you were sitting all day, would you sit down in the pit, or overlooking the CRP? I have 4 ladder stands overlooking the CRP, and 1 stand down in the pit, and then a ground blind that will let me set up on the edge of the pit, situated so I can overlook part of the pit.

Do you have a map, drawing or aerial shot we could see? Without knowing how it's laid out I'd have to say take advantage of the extended range. If there's green anything I'd be near that, but we're a few weeks ahead of you Mower Co folks.
