Alright you Sitka freaks, i hunt mostly whitetails here in the midwest but i want to go elk hunting at least twice a year every year from now on would you reccomend the whitetail gear or the mountian gear or are they interchangeable ? with the mountian gear hold well against scent for whitetails?

It's pretty hard to answer that. The optifade E2 is designed for whitetails. But that doesn't mean it will only work on whitetails. I only have whitetail gear and if I were to go out west hunting, I think I would use the same camo and not buy a whole new set. The big difference I think is how it's designed. The open country items that are available are designed for those who are spot and stalking hunting rather than treestand hunting.

Check out the new Sunalpine pattern. I have a couple items and it will work great here in Illinois stand hunting. I'll mix it with the Open Country I have. As I feel the need to replace, it will be with Subalpine.

Is Sitka worth the price tag? Honest and curious question.

Yes. I have a few Sitka things and compared to other camo that I bought around the same time as the Sitka stuff, Sitka camo is holding up better in the long run. I have a scent blocker suit that is showing it's age much worse than my Sitka Fanatic setup. And I will also note that my Fanatic setup has been used more, and is the one of the oldest possible ones out there. I got the stuff from a Sitka Rep when I guided in pike county before it even hit the stores.

But being the average guy like everyone else with a family and lots of bills, Sitka is hard to afford a lot of times. So while I love their gear, I buy lots of other brands that offer similar quality for far less and still get the job done.

It is gear. I bought a Jetstream vest first. It was a great piece. I bought it one at a time and did the research one each item before I bought it. I got my 90% jacket on Camofire because it's discontinued. If you're not used to layering, get used to it. It's really the key to the system. I don't change for the sake of change, but when I find something better. Glad I bought that first piece. My UA will be in the next yard sale.

Worth every penny. As mentioned here by many others. Without tarnishing other brand names, nothing really comes close. I do like some of the First lite Gear options too, especially the sanctuary jacket. I'm glad they decided to switch to a wool-synthetic blend for many of their base layers. I like wool and believe in all of its properties, but depending on the climate you're hunting in, it can be detrimental when hunting in cold, wet & humid conditions...just takes forever to dry.

Awesome well its good to hear all the reviews. I am in love with their camo patterns, I guess I just have to get a first hand look at their gear and see for myself.

You'll regret trying it on if you don't have the budget to buy it. You'll quickly create the budget.

What do y'all think about the new subalpine pattern being used for white-tail in the south where it never really goes full winter and theres always green pines around?
