Is it worth the price? I am really looking hard at the Fanatic bibs and jacket but the price is a bit extreme. I love the look and fit and feel but will it hold up? Will it keep me warm on those 20 degree days(of course I will layer). That is about as cold as we can normally expect but there a few colder days but I have warmer gear if need be. Is there something comperable for bow hunting at a better price.
I had this discussion with "Goldenrectangle" the other day. I wear alot of Under Armour, and love it. I wear the heat gear, I have several pairs of the Cold Gear Compression, as well as several sets (pants and jackets) of Cold Gear Ayton Fleece and the Under Armour Cold Gear Capture Fleece (their scent control gear). I have probably $1,200-$1,300 in UA gear, and it keeps me comfy, cozy, dry, etc. I've never thought I needed better than what the UA provides. I've never been cold while wearing my UA. The gear is super quiet and moves with you allowing you to have much less bulk and weight than other gear. Ive never worn Sitka, but I've never been able to justify spending $250 for a pair of pants when $150 can get me, personally, where I need to be quality-wise and performance-wise. Like I said, take my opinion for what it's worth, as I've never worn it, but those are just my reasons for not wearing it. Same can be said for any purchases in life though.
High performance clothing for tree stand hunting is a waste of money IMO. Layers of fleece will keep you as warm as anything else for pennies on the dollar compared to some of the jackets and bibs out there. Sitka is great gear, but was originally designed for mountain hunting and hiking around all day. They are a little out of their element adapting over into the whitetail industry. Is it great gear that will last a long time and work great? Yes to all three questions. Is it worth the $5-600 just for the outer layer alone? Not IMO, but maybe in yours. Personal call.
Great products, I have several clothing items and two packs. The fanatic jacket and bibs are my favorite for tree stand hunting.
But fleece layering gets bulky. (I do that now) I'm looking for less bulk for bow hunting. I'm cold natured when it comes to sitting still in a stand for hours. I'll have to look at the under armour gear. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk 2
UA is really great stuff, IMO. The cold gear system works. And if you look right now, there's several pieces for sale on Cabelas. Pieces I paid $149 for are going for $99 right now. It's end of season clearance as the 2012 gear is being released. A typical November outfit for me would consist of a pair of cold gear leggings and top, scent blocker leggings and top, and the 300 weight fleece pants and tops. This get me through November usually. I don't get cold too easily, but when it really gets chilly I may layer up a bit more. Read all the reviews you can, they dont lie!
The clothing looks good. I have looked at it for a while and decided against it. Also take a look at the ScentLok clothing. This is very high quality.
Tfox Only you can decide what's it worth to you. I have pretty much the full line in both open country and optiforest. I love their gear and it has lasted through every thing I put it through. I crawled for 400 yards across cactus and rimrock last year to get my mule deer and it didn't even phase the clothing. I wish I could say the same about my body! For whitetail hunting I have the fanatic bibs and jacket, keeps me warm and isn't bulky. The colder it gets the more the fanatic shines because I add layers underneath and still have no issues with bulk. There is alot of great clothing out there right now, I went with Sitka after a ton of research and have had zero regrets. Id be glad to help you if you have any more questions on Sitka.
Thanks for the responses. I usually get a new bow every year but I'm thinkig this year about getting new clothes instead. My Carbon Element is darn near perfect for hunting and Hoyt will have to do something special for me to get a new staff bow.
