I have shot single pin sights for over 20 years. In The past I begin at 10 yds and hit dead center. That has always allowed me to shoot out 25 and I won’t shoot a deer past that. I never move my sight. Hits where I want at 10 out to 25. My bow is slow, around 255-260 fps. Since going up 100 gr on arrows. My question is, if I still want to shoot out to 25 and hold dead on at this speed should my 10 yd shots be an inch high ?
That depends on your overall grains. Only way to be sure is to hit X at 25 then go shoot 10 and document. I have 2 vertical pins 20 and 30 at 550 grains a slow 257. I never care where it hits at 10 as it's not nominal. Good luck man. Bring back pics Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk
480 gr arrow. 70 lbs 26.5” draw. 10 yd shot are very likely for me. I’m going to shoot at 25 and then walk up to 10. I suspect it will be a touch high. Hell I will shoot 10, 15, 20, and 25.
my idea why using a single pin (Tetra), I leave it at 25 yds and am good from 5-30, no moving ... at 287fps I'm a tad high at 10 and 20, and about 2.5-3" low at 30 ....
This. 27yds for me. That's the perfect distance. I can shoot anything from point blank to 35yds, no movement.
I shoot a 540 grain arrow. I leave the sight set on 25 yards, I can shoot anywhere from 0-35 without adjusting the sight as long as I adjust my hold. Practice shooting the different distances so you know hold over. My bow: 0-10 yards dead on 15 yards 2" high 20 yards 1' high 25 yards dead on 30 yards 2" low 35 yards 4" low
The only way to really know is to check it. I shoot a two pin setup on a Spot Hogg Fast Eddie. My bow/arrow setup is not fast by any means. 278fps by my chrono. This with a 450gr arrow. I have found that over the years, my average shot distance always seemed to fall in that 20-25 yard range. So, I just set my top pin at 25 yards dead on. The bottom pin falls around 38 yards. This has allowed me to not have to mess with the sight for any shot I would take for whitetails, but I can of course easily dial up a longer shot if I ever wanted to (I'm a 40 and in hunter). If you're shooting only to 25 yards, I'd bet you'd be golden just using a single 20 yard pin at those speeds. The drop at 25 yards shouldn't be much more than an inch. My thoughts are to think about the distance most of your shots have been and go from there.
I have tested this. It's dead on from 8 out to 25. I had to adjust my sight just a very tiny bit. no hold over or under.
I would have believed you were tough enough to have that attitude if not for the headband. 5 point deduction on your man card.
yea, thats a good distance to set at ... I did that for a bit this summer, left it at 27, ended up back at 25 for the season....
