Sure I do. I'll give 'em a pass if my freezer is full, but if not, I'll shoot one without hesitation or regret.
there are a lot of young ones being taken here in Wi. due to earn a buck regs throughout the state. Personally, I want something a little bigger to put in the freezer, otherwise you'd have to shoot twice as many.
Simple Question ...do you shoot Fawns? No, as of right now, cause the season hasn't started, silly! My 1st deer was a hefty 42lb. Doe fawn, dressed. Veal, baby, veal!!!!! The guy I was hunting with wouldn't go to the checking station with me, as he is known for all the big bucks he shoots. I laughed my ass off and told everyone I was hunting with him anyways.!! Nice friend hah??? If you don't think that's funny there's something wrong with you!!! (Larry the Cable Guy) I prefer not too, but like Magic and Schultzy said, when your batting zero during the season with a few days left, any meat in the freezer works! I've been fortunate the last few seasons tagging a few bucks per year, but probably wouldn't shoot a fawn, although Mommy wouldn't get a free pass...
Something I try to avoid.... it has happened, yes, but I do not target them, nor do I like shooting them. So i had to say no...
i never have but would if it got late in the season and i didnt have any meat... last yr i wasnt fortunate enough to take an animal but please believe if one wouulda walked by my stand in Jan. i woulda taken her. funny that makes me think... i wont shoot a small buck but i'll shoot a small doe...hmmmmmm is that bad of me?
I have not personally done this. A couple of years ago though I was with a group and on the last day me and my nephew were the only ones with tags left. The call came in that 2 deer were being brought in and we could tag them. The first was a real nice 10 point. As it was my nephews first hunt I let him tag it. The next was a button buck that still had milk on it's breath. Now, where I have my deer processed it costs $55/per deer. So, my tiny thing cost the same as the big 10 point. For me it's more economics than ethics. Plus if you shoot all the fawns then all you end up with is old ones.
Yes. The herd in my hunting area is well overpopulated. I would prefer an adult doe over a fawn, but if the season is winding down and I have unfilled antlerless tags, doe fawns will not get passed.
If you were not involved in the hunt at the time the deer were shot you can not legally tag another's deer. And, the deer can not be moved until tagged. Another great argument to eliminate party hunting in Iowa.
I shoot female fawns not button bucks. I will only do it to satisfy the Earn-a-Buck system here in Jersey. For those who don't know about it, we have to tag an antlerless deer in before we can recieve our buck tag. Plus, they are really good eatin!! However, I will definately shoot momma over her fawns.
Yep, I do... If I know for a fact its a doe fawn, not a button buck. If I don't know for sure, I wont shoot. Mmmmm.. Delicious
Looks like a tight race there at the top :d personaly I dont, but dont frown on it either,, I have ate fawn that my son shot one year, its very tasty :d
I apologize. I wrote that wrong. I was out hunting. While I was on post I was called on my cell phone to NOT shoot anything else, as all the tags would be filled. And yes it was brought to my attention that the deer were not supposed to be moved until tagged. This was only my second year of deer hunting and I did not know any better. I do now! It was also my first and last party hunt. The group I got involved with were WAY too dangerous for me. Thank you fletch920 for calling me out on that.
Ive never shot a deer with spots (they are gone come season here anyways), but i have shot a yearling deer before. Call it a fawn if you will.
Have I before............yes, but both times were when I was young and it was accidental. I didn't feel bad about it, but I won't do it again
