I've been in a bit of a shooting slump lately and its got me just thinking about things a little.

Everyone touts how "simple" traditional shooting is, and generally when you hear something is simple, you equate it to being easy, but this certainly is not the case with trad shooting. (At least for me)

It's still fun, but it would be nice to be a bit more consistant with my accuracy.

Very well put Ryan. It's simple equipment but by no means Is it simply done. There's a reason traditional shooters have to practice more.

It definitely not easy, especially at 20+ yds.

I am going to take a few with trad equip. first, and then I have another feat to accomplish. I have learned how to bury myself under the leaves next to a deer trail, when the deer comes by... Bam!! I have reached up, cut the jugular and he is mine. I know I can do this without scentlok (cover with mud paste before going under leaves) and I have learned to breathe thru my skin, so movement will not give me away either. Can not wait to try this out.:d

You might want to tell some one where you are BEFORE you bury yourself in the leaves and breathe through muddy skin. :hail:

You must thoroughly cleanse your pores beforehand by sitting in the sauna full of doe urine.

It was a joke guys. Please do not try this at home. This technique is only to be employed by those who are willing to be "EXTREMELY SIMPLE" hunters.

Ryan, Amen brother, simple hardly means easy when it comes to hunting traditional but for a lack of better words.... Not all people choose the fastest and easiest road nor does everyone think its the best way to do things. My friend Brett from Montana said to me just this week on the phone while talking about traditional shooting... "this takes discipline, repetition and consistently or you will fight it forever". For me I really see that and have had to remind myself to work on only 1 thing at a time and KNOW that I am going to take many baby steps before I get to where I feel good. Just when I think I am knocking the lights out of it, I screw up, or I step back to 20 to 30 yards and see just how poor of a shot I am! LOL

Very true. And another truth is that it is lost easy. Not like compound shooting, it takes a bit to get things jiven agian, once youve put it down for a while.

I hear you Jeff, I just have a hard time wrapping my head around the concept.

I'm used to an engineering mindset...you have exact distances, layouts, details, etc. Mechanical things function in a defined way.

This whole trad shooting thing seems completely fluid to me. Repeatabilty is accomplished only thru feel, repition & muscle memory. Everyone can shoot with a unique style & have the ability to make it work.

I have fun, don't get me wrong, but that comfort of "exactness" is something that is going to take some getting used to for me.
