SBO 2012 Thread (Updated 10/27) So after talking to Dan, ive decided that instead of making 32532 threads this fall between my brothers and I, that we would make just 1 thread that you guys can follow all year. Now bear with me, I have been known to get a little picture crazy. And contrary to how i post in the Water Cooler, this thread will be full of legitimate information. ....as for a little background...My name is Caleb and I am the oldest of the four Siman Brothers (Caleb, Isaac, Luke and Ethan in order). We started as posters on HNI around 2006, i went by Cay4redneck and Isaac was known as Hick442. After the switchover we came to this site as Siman/OH and ISiman4/OH. Our 3rd brother Luke also joined and he goes by LilSiman/OH. He became semi-famous for a few seconds in 2009... http://www.bowhunting.com/blog-archive/post/a-3-year-journey-with-a-legendary-whitetail-buck-named-freak-daddy.aspx Little personal info...I work as a full time EMT and also as a Lieutenant on the local fire department. Im currently in school to be a nationally registered Paramedic. Brother Isaac is also on the local fire department as a Firefighter/EMT, and works as a chef at a local golf course. Luke and Ethan (who doesnt post here) are both still in high school, and also carry on the tradition as Explorers on another local department (me and my brothers are 3rd generation fireman). (Im in the white on the right, Isaac is standing next to me on my right) Anyhow, our real passion is the outdoors. Hunting, fishing, camping, exploring, shooting. The family farm is 100 acres in rural NE Ohio and we wouldnt trade it for the world. Alot of memories have already been made on this farm and this season should be no different. Turkey went well for us (as it always does), and we even got cfdjay from here his first shot at a bird. Jay hunts with us alot in the fall when he's off from work, and if any of you guys are lucky enough to follow his western hunting text/facebook blog i would highly recommend it. After turkey season we busted out the poles and went to town on the local cats and smallies...
Now for the deer forecast. All summer we've been keeping an eye on a bachelor group of 2.5-3.5 years olds. The stud is a 3.5 year old 10 point that will probably go into the 130's gross. He's without a doubt my number one target this year and exactly what were looking for. We've been monitoring his progress with our trail cameras all summer. Trail cams are another addiction for me, and im currently running 3. His core home range consists of old growth forest, a few valleys and a few bean fields with a pond in the middle. Ive taken a few early season does from this area and i plan on using those techniques if hes still on a feeding pattern come September.
And now for one of our more pressing issues. Coyotes. 8-9 years ago i would get MAYBE one coyote picture a year. Now, ill get 4-5 every time i check my camera. Their numbers have exploded since 2010. And they have done some damage... It doesn't help that we have 10-15 deer carcasses to dispose of every year as well. And for the last few years we've been putting all our carcasses in the same place. Its a pretty good sized graveyard now. This will be the first year that we actually target coyotes.
Hopefully well have the video rolling this year too. Its been a few years since ive got some good footage in the woods.
Nope Greg just bean fields. I didnt get any of my foodplots or trees planted that i wanted to this year.
This will be a cool thread to follow along. Caleb are you going to have this stuff on your facebook page as well?
Pretty legit dude, let me know if you need someone to come out and take care of those yote's for you. Ill be home on leave in october and will be doing a lot of shooting, I live just south of columbus. (and we have the same name weird)
The summer lull is being filled by carp fishing right now. Ill have some pictures and videos to post up later.
Heres a few of the recent fishing pictures... The smallmouth weve been pulling out of the river... And the carp from the same stream... Needless to say fishing keeps us pretty well occupied during the hot summer months...
It's great to see you and your family are doing well!! I remember you all the way back to Cay4redneck. It's cool to see how much you and your bros have grown in to great outdoorsman over the years. Hope you guys do great this season.
