With both fighters having almost nothing left to proove, how far away do you believe this fight is? I still can't figure out where I stand on when it will happen, and now Chael Sonnen is back in front of the camera talking about a rematch with Silva. My only hope is that this happens while both fighters are still relavent and on top of their game. It seems to me that too many of these super fights are put off until after the fighters careers are slipping away with age. As far as what I would like to see in the fight, I am a huge Silva fan and would love to see him ride off into the sunset with a win over GSP, but in my eyes the fight would be too close to call. Silva is the most rounded and talented fighter ever, but GSP is the smartest fighter I have ever watched and he always has the best gameplan for each fighter he faces.
wont happen but silva would win...i like gsp way more then silva but he would win =[ i dont like either that much but silva i hate =[]
Rumor is if GSP beats Sheilds, that's the direction they are looking in, course that was the rumor when Silva "Beat" damien Mia... what a joke that was. I Think it has the potential to be the best fight ever.
if gsp beats shields, and i mean if, then i think dana will make it happen. both fighers have expressed willingness to do it. it wouldnt be smart for either fighter tho. gsp said if he moves to middleweight he will stay there. but WHEN silva destroys him, what good would it do to stay at middlewieght? gsp is smart fighter, but is he really smarter than silva? silva has had a gameplan and stuck to it for every fight he's been in, including sonnen. he wanted to submit him, and it took 4 1/2 rds but he stuck to it and did it. gsp's striking isnt even close, and silva is way better on ground. gsp is better wrestler, thats all. silva >gsp by any way he wants to, sorry gsp fans. plus silva would have the entirety of hte fight to finish gsp either by ko or submission. think about it, when is the last time gsp finished anyone? he didnt finish koscheck even when he couldnt see out of one eye, so gsp would have to hold silva down for three rounds.
I'd agree that GSP would be outmatched striking against Silva and we've seen him get his bell rung before but you have to think GSP knows that going in. But I can also think of a couple of fights where Silva didn't look terribly sharp, in his defense, he won the two fights that stand out to me but he certainly showed he was human. The first and most recent one is the Chael Sonnen fight which most everyone is familiar with but an older fight that I remember is the Travis Lutter fight. Lutter didn't make weight and he ended up getting gassed and beat up in the second round but in the first round Sylva bjj didn't look that great as he ended up getting taken down and mounted by Lutter and he actually looked shook like "how the hell did I get here". I just thought it showed he could be controlled on the ground. I know it was in 07 I'm just saying GSP is a beast wrestler and his bjj is sick as well, his ground game is not lacking. Saying GSP is a better wrestler but not better on the ground is the only thing I'm not buying, but I've been wrong before. They both have similiar submission records but many of AS submissions are from strikes if you read the fine print in the stats. The flip side is if your knocking people out 55% of the time you don't really need to submit em. Tough fight to call as they are both so smart but I truly feel like Sylvas biggest advantage will be he's naturally bigger/stronger(walks around over 200#) and he is a striking nightmare w/knees, elbows, kicks, & punches...all thrown with extreme accuracy and bad intentions. Hope this fight happens, and soon.
GSP would have to be able to take Silva down and control him like Sonnen did. Thats his only chance. GSP on the other hand would most likely get KO'd by Silva. GSP's chin would be tested like it has never been tested before. I hope it doesnt happen. I'd rather see Silva step up and fight Jones at 205 if he (jones) wins the title over Shogun and I do believe he will beat Shogun.
I really belive the Silvia/GSP fight will happen. They will both fight one more time then the fight will be planned. I thought I read something about haveing it at the Dallas stadium. For me, the biggest thing I see, is the size of Silivia compared to GSP. But, I believe GSP's work ethic is like no other, I am not going to count him out. If we see these things, trust me his training camp does also. This will be one fight I would not miss.
i'm not sure the fight would happen but if it did... watch out! GSP has a pace like none other and Silva's X factor cant be accounted for. dare i say best fight, or most wanted fight to see EVER
Very good point about the lutter fight. However, Lutter's jujitsu is at a much higher level than gsp's. gsp has good bjj, but its just not on the same level. gsp just doesnt have the abiility fo finish people. he is great at what he does, brutaly punishing people for five rounds, which gives silva 25 mins to knock you out or submit you. and the two fights that were miserable to watch i agree. however, those people didnt want to fight silva, and he is smart enough to not take stupid chances. damian wanted the fight on the ground where he is better, and silva wasnt going to let that happen. takes two people to fight. gsp is a very good fighter adn this fight would be the biggeset in mma history, but i just dont think its very good for either fighter.
One thing I've always had trouble with is saying one guys bjj is better than anothers. Striking is easy to judge, wrestling & bjj not so much in my opinion. I would agree that Sylvas frame and long limbs make him a huge threat with bjj/submissions but I don't see him on some other level with his bjj, hell he barely even uses it anymore. Mainly because he doesn't have to but still. GSP finishes plenty of fights, 13 finishes & 8 decisions: Name Georges St. Pierre Nick Name Rush Record 21 - 2 - 0 (Win - Loss - Draw) Wins 8 (T)KOs ( 38.1 %) 5 Submissions ( 23.81 %) 8 Decisions ( 38.1 %) Losses 1 (T)KOs ( 50 %) 1 Submissions ( 50 %) I would say that some of his decisions were so one sided and he so thoroughly destroyed his opponents that you would think he could have finished them and maybe that's where his striking isn't as dangerous as someone like AS. GSP's striking is solid and much improved but still not as punishing as other top strikers and he seems less likely to throw down possibly because it leaves his own chin vulnerable. For Comparison: Name Anderson Silva Nick Name The Spider Record 28 - 4 - 0 (Win - Loss - Draw) Wins 16 (T)KOs ( 57.14 %) 5 Submissions ( 17.86 %) 7 Decisions ( 25 %) Losses 2 Submissions ( 50 %) 1 Decisions ( 25 %) 1 Other ( 25 %) And I'll go on record now picking GSP over Shields, all I know for sure is Shields better bring more than he brought against Kampmann or it's gonna be a long night or a short one for that matter.
gsp has finished 3 of 8 fights since 2007, one of which was against penn, who came up to 170 to face him. more so, 4 out of his last 5 matches have been decisions. i agree, most of these were so unanimous that there was no debating he dominated them. the only problem is, by not finishing someone like silva, its only a matter of time before he gets you.
