Sounds like things are going good but not out of the woods yet hang in there time is your friend. Man I miss my lab best dogs on Earth!!! Still can't bring myself to replace him! Some day soon I hope! Still pulling for your family!!!!
I've also heard to give them benadryl. Sorry your dog got bit. I have a soft spot for labs. One of my buddies dogs got bit in the eye a few years ago. Needles to say the dog lost an eye, but the snake lost his head. The dogs fine, except turning left is a little tricky sometimes.
Prayers for your dog. That's a good dog. I hate copperheads. At least with rattlers you can get some warning before the strike. Nothing silly about requesting prayers for that dog. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Good. Shes walking around as the pain med wear off and not really favoring the leg much, but still swollen. Give her the pain meds and she drools and looks at you like you have 4 arms.
Good deal hopefully it's all downhill from here .I've heard munchie go good with being stoned. Lol haha Give that pup some treats!!!!
Same here! We had one as a family pet for 15 yrs. Have had 2 others dog but no labs since. Sure do miss him Sent from my SM-G920V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Ya smaller snakes will feel more threatened and feel the need to pump more venom out. Sounds like the pup is doing as well as it can. Hope the recovery is speedy one!
Thanks. I thought Maine would at least have some venomous snakes (like some rattler), as we had some even on the Adirondaks (when I lived in upstate NY) but I see they don't in this informative article...admittedly I wouldn't have thought of the 'bonus' animal. http://q1065.fm/10-dangerous-critters-in-maine/
It's nothing short of amazing how a dog will perceive a threat and put itself in danger to protect his/her people. Sometimes before we even know what's going on. I recommend that you buy that dog a steak. She deserves it. Sent from my VS500 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Just to level set...I don't think the dog threw herself in between my wife and a striking snake. My wife went to take the dogs out to relieve themselves...the snake was 3' off the back patio. The dog ran past my wife as the door opened as any dog might when they need to pee...but ya know stuff happens and ya never know. She's a good dog though.
Man that's a big copper head, great dog good luck have a steak with him Sent from my iPad using Bowhunting.com Forums
Update So her swelling is pretty much gone. Bite area looks good just 2 small scabs....but I just found a spot of necrotizing on the inside of her leg about 2" x 1/2" which she's licking. I cut back the pain meds but still have her on oral antibotics. The wife will have to take her to the vet tomorrow. I suspect a topical ointment and some time in 'the cone of shame' is in store.
