hello again. so i am getting more and more informed about what type of setup i want for starting bow hunting.

I have decided on a PSE Stinger 3G for my first bow. Will not be able to puchase it until after new year, but very excited about even starting target practice, and that is where my question lies.

I see that there are sever types of sights and some have several points in them. I could see where having 2-3 would be helpful, but what would you reccommend for starting with.

The more points I see i can only think the more complicated shooting would be.

i personally don't notice the my other pins on my 5-pin sight, when i'm making a 10 or 20 yard shot.. i also like my single pin HHA, which is nice for 3d shoots.. my first bow was a parker with 3 pins. 1st pin was for 10-20 yards. 2nd for 30 yards. 3rd for 40 yds.

Even though I've been at this for 20 some years, I still take the minimalist approach with pins. I use 3, 20-30-40. But I'm even debating on removing the 40. The only time I ever used the 40 yarder was on a doe I shot last year while hunting a field. All my other shots are 30 or shorter. Remember, you're bowhunting, you're supposed to get close!

Since you're a beginner especially, I would highly recommend using 3 or less pins. Keep your shots short for a few years and gain confidence that you can effectively kill deer, then start thinking about expanding your effective range.

It doesn't take a $100.00 either to get a good one.

The PSE Stinger is a great bow! It is the one I own now for my first bow. I upgraded the sight on mine to an extreme archery raptor 4-pin sight, tool-less adjustments so you dont have to mess with allen wrenches also has a light at the end of it. Overall great sight, I like it. Bought it for $69

Tru-Glo makes good sights, that don't burn holes in your pockets.. you don't need to spend $200

I use a 3 pin Viper sight, I probably won't switch for a long time. Unless I get a slider sight for target shooting

Recently bought a Tru-Glo Carbon XS 4 pin 0.19 sight...easy to sight in and like it better than my old 3 pin sight. Great sight IMO and got it for cheap.

I have a 5 pin tru-glo site that I've had since my first bow. I think i paid like $39 for it years ago. I've put it on every bow I've owned & had good luck with it so I've never bothered to get a new one. I hunt a heavily wooded area & it is almost impossible to have a shot over 30 yards but often I practice @ 40-60 yards. When I shot my deer this year it was @ 22 yards & seemed like a chip shot since I was use to practicing @ longer distances.

I like using my HHA single pin slider. It reminds me of shooting my M2 machine gun. Figure out your range, set your slide, index the pin to the target, and shoot. Good times.

I started out with a 4 pin sight but went to a single-adjustable pin. My ol eyes get fixed on it quicker than with all of the other pins.

I have a Carbon XS and really like it. Super light, bright pins. My only complaint is the pins are extremely easy to strip out when adjusting.

i had a exteme 4 pin sight but it seamed like they would blur together in lower light so I got a truglo rangerover single pin I think it should help me with that problem and simplify things for me.
