I have a hard time at distances of 30yds and out with my pins being very blurry. I have a hard time with pinpointing my pin on a smaller target. I have a CBE sight with .019 pins. This seems to be a short sight. So i guess my question is will the sight picture change if my pins where further away from my riser. I will add that it is blurry in natural light as well as using the light. Thanks for any input.
If you've got access to one at your local range or shop try a clarifier peep and see what that does. You might also try going to the next size bigger peep. Moving the sight in or out will help frame the sight ring in the peep halo but shouldn't change the clarity of the pin, at least it never has for me. As I've gotten older I've noticed the sight picture isn't as clear for me as it used to be (then again maybe it's just that I'm not shooting tournaments through magnified scopes anymore too, yeah, that must be it!). At ranges 50+ the pin totally obscures the target. The options are to get bigger targets, get smaller pins, or become comfortable with varying your focus from pin to target throughout the shot and trusting the float in your pin to know that you're covering the center of the target as the shot happens.
Great answer Rob. The one thing I would add is, and I have done this, to use less pins. I went to a 3 pin sight for my hunting and a single movable pin for targets.
I've also noticed with age , i had to go up from my normal 3/16'' peep to a 1/4'' peep do to to much fuzzyness , and by doing that i went to a 2'' sight housing from my Hogg-It 1 5/8'' to match my peep and sight sight ring , it has worked out great , i'm pleased with it .
