Whoops, that should say SIGHT HOUSING.... Ok, a pretty simple question I hope someone can answer. My sight housing (the ring part) is basically mounted as low as it pretty much can go on its brace arm off of my bow. I was hoping to try to raise it up on the brace arm and am wondering, what will I need to adjust in order to keep my sights somewhat close to where they are located inside the housing ring for shooting. Just adjust my anchor point up/down? Peep down/up? Both? Anyone have any thoughts? (as you can imagine, I'm a relatively new bowhunter)
First off welcome. Secondly, are you shooting poorly or cannot adjust? There's a few things. 1. Does your anchor point and peep fit you? Don't worry about anything else. Take the sight off. When you draw back and anchor down, is your peep in line with your eye? Try this a couple times until it's comfortable. You very welll may have to move your peep to the correct location. A good way is to close your eyes, draw back, and then open looking straight ahead, if you have to look up or down, your peep is in the wrong location. 2. If your peep and anchor point are correct, shoot through paper and see what it says. Your arrow may be knocked too high or low. Typically a part of the bow maxxed out means that the bow is out of tune.
With the setup I have right now, I'm putting arrows inside a 3" circle at 25 yds consistently. Both with field points and with broadheads. I am super confident with my shooting. It's just a curiousity of maybe trying to get my sight housing raised up a bit so that its not on the very edge of being clamped in, ya know? I feel very comfortable when shooting, I feel that my anchor point is a natural point to pull too, and I'm not straining to get me eye behind the peep at all. I've paper tuned and its good to go. I have good arrow flight and from what I can tell, little to no problems there. I guess its just a mental thing wondering how I can get my sight housing raised up a bit on the brace arm and what I would have to do elsewhere to compensate...?
No can do. The way my pins are set right now, they can't go down any further or I'll lose any yardage past 30-40 yards. Hence my question about anchor/peep etc.
I wouldn't change your anchor point at all. I think you have this thing squared away. What I found is that when I first started shooting, I got so used to changing things that when I had it set up it felt weird not to have to tweak something. Now, I haven't touched my sight in months. Occasionally I'll check my tune but end up not touching a thing. Like you said, it was a mental thing.
