Alright, I'm having a bit of an issue I think I've overlooked for too long now. Long story short. I switched to LH shooting last April. To lighten my financial load, I reused my CJ Deadnuts II Comp RH sight on my left hand bow (just flipped it since it was a dovetail). Well, initially, I've had always had to max the elevation adjustment on the sight housing until it's bottomed out to get me hitting right with my current anchor. That was the first oddity, but since it was shooting fine, I left it be. Well, fast forward to just this week. I changed the angle of the barrel on my release (ST-3), and it was enough to change my anchor slightly. To get the peep back in place so the sight housing was centered, I adjusted the peep height, but of course, now my impacts are a bit lower than before. However, since I have no more room for elevation adjustment on my sight housing, the only option would be to drop the individual pins (currently have 5). I KNOW that I will run out of room at about the 35 yd area pin wise. This leads me to believe something is wacky. Would this be something related to using a RH sight on a LH bow and that's why I'm running out of elevation adjustment in the downward direction (which is essentially the upward direction if it was mounted on a RH bow), or is it a tuning issue (which I have a hard time believing since everything else is shooting fine (arrow flight is good, BH tune is fine, walkback is fine, etc)?
5 5/8" from the center of the nock to the center of the peep. Bowhunter546, I never really thought of it being a "bad" fit, but at this point, it's one of the few explanations left, unless I'm overlooking something
You said you changed your anchor a little and had to change your peep so the reason I asked about the distance was because my sight was adjusted low also but when I changed my anchors and moved my peep farther away from the nock point I also moved the sight up. My peep is 6" from the bottom of my nock. Did you adjust your peep closer to your nock point when you moved it? The sight may be a bad fit for you or you may need to change your anchor(s). If you were to get another sight and then have to adjust it very low too then you would need to change your anchors to accomodate the new sight. You may want to consider changing your anchors now and then you can work with it for 6 months until the season begins.
Matt - Check your nock height. It should be level or very slightly above center......like 1/8 or less. Assuming this is accurate, and you have a 5 5/8" peep height, then its your sight. I have an abnormally low peep height of about 5" on a 33" bow and I can still get 60+ yards out of a pin sight.
I moved it down closer to the nock. Basically, I angled the barrel on my release, closed my eyes, drew back, settled in, and then opened my eyes, and reset my peep accordingly (as I always have). I don't really want to change anchors as this is really comfortable and consistent, but I may have to try that. I could just see the look on my fiance's face when a new sight shows up
Matt, I was going to check that next. When I set it up, I had the shaft level and passing through the center of berger holes.
Just checked. I'm setup slightly nock high. I'm getting a new string soon, so I will just blank bale for a while this setup, then retie my nocksets so I'm level on my new string. Not sure if it's the root of my issue or not, but it can't hurt to try.
