Let's talk about having your pins closer and or further from the riser. I have the option to move my sights(as many of you do) another few inches further from my riser. Let's hear opinions on what works
I've always preferred farther away. Seems more stable to me. I know its not really like going from a hand gun to a long gun but when one gets in ones own head, a longer sight plain makes sense.
I actually use a dovetail mounted sight and a peep with changeable apertures. The key is to adjust the sight distance to give you the best alignment of the sight housing with the peep. The peep should appear ever-so-slightly larger than the sight housing with the circles concentrically aligned. Pick a peep (and/or aperture) size that lets in enough light for your shooting conditions. The last caveat is to make sure your pin gap clutter is acceptable for your sight picture. I think the farther your sight is from the bow, the wider your pin gap.
I'm with Planopurist. I've gone to a dovetail sight simply so I can move it to a point that my peep aligns with the sight housing, rather than having to change peep diameter to match. Further from riser: - increasing the distance between two sighting references yields more pin point accuracy potential -wider pin gap -wider pin gap will reduce overall sighting distance capability...your bottom pin will have less max range distance - more critical of form flaws -increased overall footprint of the bow Closer to riser: -narrower pin gap -farther max distance sighting capability...your bottom pin will be capable of being sighted for a longer distance - less distance between sighting references reduces pin point accuracy potential - more forgiving of form flaws - "tighter" bow footprint
