Been practicing with my Ravin R10x at an elevation of 1,000' for a hunt that will be in the mountains at 10,000'. Anyone see a need to adjust sights going 10x higher in elevation gain? This thing is shooting at 430fps so I wouldn't be surprised if no adjustment is needed, but the air is much thinner up there so thought I'd ask around...
You likely won't see much difference. However, it's a good practice to double check any sights after traveling.
I did some homework on this question as I had no idea it could even be an issue because I’ve never hunted more than a few hundred feet above sea level. Bill is correct above when he says you won’t see much difference. Most experts I read say that the average shooter would most likely never even notice the difference. Hey, most of us don’t shoot like Levi Morgan. I did stumble across more than one professional opinion that said if there is a difference, the best way to compensate is not to change the setting on your sight, but to adjust the draw weight slightly. When you get back down closer to sea level just put it back to where it was. Like I said, I read that. No better than I am at shooting, I probably wouldn’t even worry about it.
