I'm sure quite a few of you have a UTV. After last year's misadventures on the e-bike going up and down the rocky road to get to the 560 acre hunting spot, we (the wife and I) have decided to get a UTV for this season. I think she's only onboard because it'll be a big help with the horses.

I have no experience with them or knowledge of their capabilities or possible faults.

I only want a two seater, and I'm primarily looking at the Polaris Ranger, the Kawasaki Ridge and the CanAm Defender. I really like the looks of the CanAm Commander, but the small dump bed is smaller than I'd like and it's almost a foot higher off the ground. It would hold a deer, but it wouldn't be as useful for the tasks related to the horses.

Does anyone have any experience with those three choices or have other choices you can recommend based on performance or reliability?

I should add that I'm still going to use the e-bike. I'm just going to stash the bike down at the bottom of the hill and use the UTV to get up and down the hill, move stands, recover deer and that sort of thing.

The e-bike is so much more quiet and stealthy when it comes to the actual hunt. I noticed last year that when we started riding four wheelers in and out the deer movement REALLY slowed down.

I have never had a side by side, only 4 wheelers. Out of all of the wheelers I have had I would consider the honda to be the most reliable. The only experience I have with any of these you mentioned is the can am. They aren’t unreliable but they do have their fair share of problems, mostly build quality/ poor assembly. AKA made in Mexico. I do currently have a can am and so far it has been OK, but the previous 2 had minor problems. If the Honda 4 wheelers had the Fun factor that the can am does I would definitely get one. So if you haven’t considered a Honda, it might be worth looking at. The only time I use my wheeler during the season is to go get a deer, it definitely has a impact on the movement.

Forgot about Honda. Definitely worth checking out. I think there is a dealer close.

I do not own one but up where I live most people have a side by side and the most popular ones I see are Polaris.

I’ve never heard of that brand. Any idea how their customer service is?

I've never had any issues that weren't taken care of by the local dealership.
In ten years of use I have had the follow things happen with mine. Oil line leak due to clamp failure. Fuse blew that controls ignition. Electric fan thermostat went out at year five. Water pump stared dripping out of the weep hole and had it replace. All told I have spent less than 2 grand on maintenance over the 10 years I've had it.

I believe there are a couple Cfmoto dealers in your area. One in Dexter and another in West Plains

FYI Cf moto is a Chinese made brand. Not that it matters, but sometimes it does.

We have had 3 Polaris Rangers.

My 900xp had quite a few problems and I finally unloaded it last year. Lots of people rated those machines highly but ours had a lot of problems and I would avoid one. It only had about 500 miles on it, but we ended up having to replace a brake caliper, clutch, and the transmission sounded awful and wouldn’t shift right. It left me stranded a couple miles out on the ice with my family during an ice fishing trip once. What a nightmare.

My 1000xp has been an amazing machine and the most practical for work. We have a farm that’s about 20 miles away from the house and I keep it there to get around and do work. It’s easy to get around in the woods, great for spraying, hauling wood, etc. It has 1500 miles on it now and just got a clutch adjustment and nothing else but regular maintenance.

We also got a 1500 6 seater last year that we keep at the farm where we just built our house. It has been a great machine, The only reason we got that large of a model is because the new house is in a spot where we have hundreds of miles of road where it’s legal to run and I can drive into town on it legally and now we have room for the kids without sitting on our laps. If it weren’t for the road use, I probably would have just stuck with the smaller 1000xp for work stuff.

I LOVE my defender. I was in the market for a ranger, as that is all I ever owned. I got a great deal on a new defender, and I am very impressed with it.

Well you know what we have.
The gator was my 35 wedding anniversery gift. We'll be married 46 years this year. That said I would'nt recommend any JD now. If you have any machanical issues a repair and parts would make buying a new vehical from another company cheaper than a JD fix

I’d take a look at the Kawasaki Mule line up, there good machines. My BIL has one and it’s been great for him and the family. I believe he has the pro fx.
