Maybe the Simans will chime in here... I think that's what they use, at least I'm pretty sure that Caleb does. I got some at the GTG but haven't used them quite yet.
Hey Walt, This may not help a lot but here is what I know. I have one buddy that has tried them and just raves about them, but two other guys complained about the fletches getting "funny" when they put them on. They may have overheated during application or done something else wrong. So, short story long, I guess I have mixed reviews. Dave
I have been using the ones by Extreme(NAP) for a couple of years now but mainly for practice. I always take them with me when raining because I still use feathers mostly. I like the shrink fletch and have shot them alot but NOT at a deer yet. I will probably use them alot this season. BE CAREFUL ON THE TEMP. WHEN APPLYING!!! The water must be 180 deg. when you put them in. If too hot they will mess up and too cold the glue will not hold. It is VERY easy. I just heat up a tiny bit over 180 and by the time I get the water transferred over it is fine. You can even twist them a little to give a slight helical if you want. I have tried the regular vanes and the blazers and I like the blazers MUCH better. I have heard they still hold up well on a pass thru. I have made a pass thru on my 3D deer and it was ok. Hope this helps.
My brother and i have been using them for several years now and they have worked very well, the only problems we have with them is when you hit another vanes and tear it off you have to replace the whole thing, It gets kinda expensive after doing it a couple times. And the only time they would ever slip would be if you hit a tree or something solid. But over all they work very well and i did shoot a doe with them later year.
Talking to the guy in the pro shop, he said to dip just the nock end in maybe about a half inch and letting it set some before immersing the whole thing. It sets the vane in place. I guess they have a tendency to float up the shaft when the whole vane is put in the water at once. Super simple to install. I've only put 12 arrows downrange @ 25 yards with them so far, but the group was very tight. I didn't have to change a thing with the rest (whisker biscuit) or sight.
I have had the Extreme shrink fletch on my arrows for over a year now, never had the first problem. I gave a couple to my son-in-law though and after he applied them and shot them about fifty times, one of them cracked. My guess is the ones I gave him may have gotten dryed out over time because I've never had a problem with them. Blessings.....Pastorjim
I have used them and they SUCKED...I had the fletchings fall off after 10 shots. The only time I would use would be if I were camping and needed a quick repair.
