Good choice! :D I had the leveling kit put on my 1500. Now it sits evenly, and has the clearance of the 2500. Which this pic doesn't show. I like you color much better!
Make sure you have a friend with a FORD, and you'll never be stuck long.....:D I drive a Dodge, but the BEST 4x4 trucks I ever had were FORDS. Nice looking truck Todd, enjoy it, and those days of doing "STUPID" stuff should NEVER be behind us.... :D :thumb:
My worst 4x4 was a Ford. It was a 06 6L diesel and was just terrible. I now have a 03 cummins and love it. congrats on the chev. They sure are a nice driving truck.
I have a 1999 Dodge 4x4 w/ a Cummins and LOVE IT as well, but it won't go like my 78 or 92 Fords did!!! I think some of it is TOO MUCH power though as I'm pushing 350's on HP and over 700ft/#'s of torque.... But either one of those Fords would get me out of "the bottom of the ocean." I hope Todd has a successful season and don't have to worry about gettin' stuck though.
I will admit that my 6L Ford would spank this dodge in a race, both trucks had chips on set to the 100hp setting and the Ford was crazy fast, but blew injectors often and would over heat when towing my trailer around even with the chip off. The cummins is just so much more reliable. Just wish the trannies and front ends were better on the dodge. I was really tempted to go for a Duramax but am happy with my dodge. I got pulled out by a chev last year while I was at whitefish. A little embarrasing but not bad.
If you're gonna chip a FORD, you also need to up the injectors. Then you also need a supplemental cooler.....:D I've not heard anyone that was HAPPY with the 6.0, which is why they changed it again. Interestingly, though, if you buy a Ford Dumptruck, the standard diesel is an International, while the "Upcharge" diesel is a .......CUMMINS, at least that's how it was a couple years ago. Your Cummins has a rod twice the size of that Ford or Duramax, and it the most BULLETPROOF engine that was ever built. That same block except in a 12-valve version has been used since he mid-50's in military and industrial vehicles..... Find an old "Duece-and-a-half" from the 60's, chances are it's got an old NON-Turbo 5.9L Cummins Diesel in it.....:D As for the transmission, I have a 5-speed manual, and I've not had a single problem in 170K+ except I had to replace the factory clutch (went with a custom "South Bend" alike that I can start out in 3rd gear and not slip the clutch even with 8k behind it... ), but after 40K of pulling, sometimes as much as 12,000# on I ain't gonna complain. I got 15.5mpg pulling a 30ft trailer, bike, and a bunch of other stuff to Sturgis and back.... No chip in mine, just open exhaust, upgraded lift and injector pump, and open air system. I keep considering the chip, but haven't yet talked myself into it....
