Need a little advise...I shot a nice 10pt at 7:50 this morning he was 15 yards out I got about 6 to 7 inches of penetration he broke the arrow off 10 yards from where I shot him. I got excited and tracked to soon 30min found good blood bright red but lost it about 400 yards out,,,I could not find him,,,,Im thinking I hit scapula any thoughts???
6-7 inches of penetration means the arrow is inside the deer. If you hit the near side shoulder blade I wouldn't think it would've made it that far in. I hit one a few years ago and stuck it directly into the shoulder blade. Here is a picture of him a year later. Notice the mark on his left front shoulder.
Sounds like you definitely collapsed one lung. Where was the shot placement in relation to elevation on the body? As much as you don't want to hear it ... You probably pushed him.
Agreed. Even if you hit scapula, 6-7" is ~ halfway through a deer so you must have busted through it. You would have also heard a VERY loud crack sound if you hit the shoulder blade.
If you got that much blood and arrow is still in him then he will die. Could still live though. I have seen hunters find broadheads in there bucks so they can make it. If you got that much in him then im going with dead.
Thanks guys for the info....Could not make it back out today but going in the morning to try to find him....
This just went from bad to god awful. Requesting a mod just lock the thread now in anticipation of major FLAME!!!!!
I would have gone out the very next day no matter what. The meat us just as important as the horns as far as I'm concerned. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
