Which shoulder are you referring to; the arm holding bow or drawing back?

Could be bone spurs in your shoulder. I have an uncle that used to quail hunt a lot and his shoulder got to where his arm would lock with his shotgun raised and he had to physically pull it down and it would pop, turned out it was a bone spur.

no it only locks when I draw on the third try with the release and it don't when I free hand with the fingers and I know I don't have bone spurs

Rather bizzar that it's on the 3rd pull only. I know my shoulder pops and creeks from shooting bows from when I was younger. Take it to your Dr and see if on third pull he can feel around the shoulder and see what it is.

Is your bow set at proper draw length? Maybe draw length too long so not hitting let off. With release it might be problem cause you aren't pulling string back as far compared to position of your shoulder.

ok heres another one since we figured out its more then likely my draw length... on my bow which is a 2003 fred bear single cam bow if I twist my boss cable when I put my string on position 3 would that shorten it to my 27" draw length

That is your problem. Two inches is Huge. Take your bow to a shop and see if it can be adjusted or if it has mods that can be changed. You might get by with a draw length that's a little too short (by little i mean 1/2") but too long will cause all kinds of problems. Being a beginner, you should really have a bow that fits you exactly. Well everyone should.

Sounds like that's your problem. Your bow has to fit you well or it will cause all kinds of problems. Take your bow in to a shop and see if it can be adjusted to you're proper draw length.

Sounds like it is draw length, not a physical problem. Your draw length with fingers would be a little longer than with a release.
