Should people with PHD's call themselves, "doctor"?

    In that regards, I can see it. You're selling your company and it is used as a reference.

    I'm a nobody and have no issue admitting it. :p there goes that insecurity argument.

    A principal telling me he's a doctor does nothing for me. That's between him and his employers. Yes, I pay his salary but I did not hire him.

    why do we call medical Doctors Dr ?
    isn't it because they have a doctorates degree in medicine ?

    In a formal setting if they request to be called Doctor, I could see it, after all some people don't want to be addressed by their first time in such forums. But this was more of an informal setting, ask once and the other person might comply if they wish, insist again that is just being self serving and wanting to hear the "doctor" before their name. Just my opinion, why else would they insist on being called a doctor in a informal setting? Because they earned it? Sure they earned that degree, but that doesn't mean everyone is required to call him/her as such.
