At that point, they called again for military support and help because they were taking fire at the CIA safe house, or annex. The request was denied. There were no communications problems at the annex, according those present at the compound. The team was in constant radio contact with their headquarters. In fact, at least one member of the team was on the roof of the annex manning a heavy machine gun when mortars were fired at the CIA compound. The security officer had a laser on the target that was firing and repeatedly requested back-up support from a Specter gunship, which is commonly used by U.S. Special Operations forces to provide support to Special Operations teams on the ground involved in intense firefights. The fighting at the CIA annex went on for more than four hours -- enough time for any planes based in Sigonella Air base, just 480 miles away, to arrive. Fox News has also learned that two separate Tier One Special operations forces were told to wait, among them Delta Force operators.

Troops engaged in life threatening conflicts should not have to ask for permission to eliminate the threat. I swear we are even PC when out Americans are in danger. Those higher ups, politicians, and bureaucrats need to spend a month on the ground with a weapon in hand before they are allowed to make any decisions that affect the troops.

There is obviously a LOT more going on here than will be released to the public. Lindsey Graham has also been more vocal than usual. Issa released a bunch of sensitive records. The details are very vague about the CIA ops in the city and the reason for the ambassador in the city have been somewhat vague and contradictory.

Several random thoughts keep floating around in my head and there are still a few pieces of the puzzle missing. But why would the Exec branch and State Dept throw Intelligence under the bus? Exactly what (beyond the missing 20k MANPADS) was scope of the CIA operations? My musings lead me to believe the present Exec admin is trying to save face thru Nov, Hillary trying to save some hope of a 2016 office run and some potential bad PR or questionable operations from the cloak and dagger agency.

Maybe its a race thing, every one that died was white, whats that say to you?

If they all had been black, and this happened under the Bush watch would Jackson and Sharpton had been so quite?

Where are all of the presidents supporters on this board? Why did we let our people be murdered when help was readily available?

I guess you guys just support his economic policies! :)

Good for you, I'm heading to NY for some duck and goose hunting, and all the while the media will have buried the story by Monday.

We all as Americans should be wondering at just what point this administration plans to protect any of us.

What is it like to spend your last moments on earth fighting for your life?

To have devoted your life, and your life's work, to a great nation -- to serve it well and honorably -- and serve for it with courage and distinction, to all come down to a last, frantic few seconds, spent defending you and your fellow Americans and call for the cavalry to come help, and no cavalry comes--and you die.

This is what the two former Navy SEALs, under the employment of CIA, Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty, faced in their final moments in Benghazi on September 11, 2012.

It is not a question of could we have sent forces in to help.We could. We could have sent forces to help as they were within a few hundred miles. This battle of Benghazi was a protracted fight - covering at least six to eight hours (depending on when you start the clock). And, if the forces were not there, on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, then there is an additional level of leadership failure that must be examined. However, the appearance is that there was forces available.

Is what we now stand for now, as a nation? To have invested billions in intelligence and special operations forces to hang back, play it safe?

To have general officers serve NOT as "Monday morning quarterbacks" but as "Monday morning apologists" for the WH saying "it was just too hard" or "the uncertainty was a key factor" - are you kidding me? Conventional thinking obtains you conventional (and in this case tragic) results - four dead Americans.

All I can say is that those men deserved better. Our citizens deserves better. There's no room for politics when it comes to protecting the citizens of this country. Our leadership failed these men who dedicated their lives to protecting and serving this great nation. Our leadership failed each and every one of us on that day. Really, we have no leadership at this point.

    Horrific!

It doesn't matter whos toes we step on and forget politics these are the people under your command and you abandoned them. I see it as cowardness and treason. Isn't that what a soldier would be charged with if he didn't do what he was supposed to do to protect the country? Pathetic! It makes me sick. If I was an ambassador in another couuntry I would be packing my bags and coming home since my "boss" wasn't willing to protect me for the things I do for the country.
