im new to bow hunting and i just sighted my bow in to where it is just perfect at 20 yard and i went out to thirty yards and got my pin elevation right on the money but the arrow always ends up like 5 inches to the left when shooting at 30 yards. anyone no what could be causing this?

    Could be a few things.

Is your center shot set, correctly? That's a good place to start.

If you're not familiar with the term, I'd suggest taking your bow in to a reputable shop.....and asking them to set it (center shot) for you.

Basically (and I'm sure some of these compound shooters will set me straight if I don't get this EXACTLY right).....you're going to want the elevation and orientation (windage) of your rest; your nocking point (with arrow on the string) and your string in line (all, plumb and level).

It's the gold std. for compound archers....or... a good starting point, prior to and an integral part of "tuning" (as it relates to the bow portion of "tuning").

I hope I stated that correctly.....and so that you could understand it.

Move it very little at a time 1/8in is a big move, 1/64in fine tune. It sounds like the rest needs to move right, hard to say for sure. Try small movements if it helps keep going. Shoot at 10- 20-30 and 40 when you get close. Find a post on walk back tuning.

Like I said....it could me a number of things (to have you experience what you're now experiencing). Your arrow's dynamic spine "could be" too stiff (hitting left).

That's why I placed so much importance on whether or not your center shot was set, correctly. Unless you know this, guessing at what to do next is a lesson in futility.

    rambo,

Where are you located? Maybe if we have a good technical member on this site that your close to, we can point you to someone that can help?

As others have said, it can be arrow spine, centershot, fletching clearance, etc. Could be a ton of things and it's difficult to trouble shoot over the web.

A few things we would need to know to start trouble shooting this.........

    • What is the exact model of bow?
    • What draw length?
    • What draw weight?
    • What type of arrow rest?
    • What arrows?
    • What arrow spine?
    • What arrow length?
    • What point weight?
Centershot is the measurement from the inside of the bow's riser to exactly the center of the arrow rest that your arrow sits on/in. What is the current measurement? Most bows need to be around 13/16", but this can vary depending on model.

Aside center shot being off. Are you using a multi pin sight? If so do you center the whole sight housing or each pin. It is possible that your anchor is changing due to using a different pin and depending where you anchor it is a possibility. Also does your sight have a level? If so make sure you are shooting with the sight level you won't notice bow tilt at 20 yards but out past that is can be a factor. Best of luck keep us posted.
