Hey all I have a quick question regarding shooting at deer that are sharply quartering away. I saw a video recently of a man who shot a doe that was facing almost completely turned away from him. He shot the doe in the guts on the right side and the arrow came out through the neck on the left. Now I know a deer cannot take a hit like that since the arrow is most likely going to hit at least one of the lungs and maybe nick the heart, assuming you get a pass through. But should you shoot at a deer knowing your arrow will pass through the stomach/intestines? Will making a gut shot do any damage to the meat at all? Thanks.
Its not an ethical shot by what you explained. I would not take it personally. And as mentioned, not great for the meat. Quartering away is good, but theres a point when its to much. Cant hit 2 lungs? To hard of a quarter.
I personally would not....ever. I cannot have any doubt of the shot before I take it. Bowtech invasion CX maxima 350 React 5 Reaper 2 inch
Thank you, I have always been taught to not settle for just 1 lung, so that is why I brought the question to you guys.
A shot through the guts if the animal is recovered quickly and cleaned properly shouldn't affect the meat, but quick recovery is unlikely. The biggest issue with the shot you described is if you don't get a pass through you'll have a very poor blood trail.
i do not like a hard quarter. unless shooting heavy poundage and a FIXED blade head. and i still don't reccomend it.
No shot on those. I doesnt matter if its a yearling doe or a 200" buck. Still wouldnt do it. Thats just me.
Straight away, no way. Slightly steep quarter? Sure. This is about as steep as I have and would take. In at the diaphragm, out at the shoulder-
