I've been bowhunting for two years im an avid bowhunting i love it to death but i never seem to kill one.. This past bowhunting season i shot a buck quartering towards me i waited an hour, tracked blood for 100 yards and lost blood. we think we bumped him we're not sure though. it wasnt a complete pass through but it looked like it entered between the shoulder and neck and penetrated at least 12 inches. blood didnt start for about 60 yards from where i shot him. i was using a G5 montec. Any advice on what i should do next time? different gear? waiting time? wait for a better shot? im not sure i need y'alls advice on this please...

Definatly should have waited for a better shot. You can have the best gear there is to buy but if you make a bad shot then it doesnt matter. And I probably would have waited a little longer than an hour before tracking. When did you shoot? Are you going to keep looking?

    Use Rage broadheads...

...or wait for a better shot. Quartering to, despite what you may see on tv, is a poor archery shot. If you do make a marginal hit, wait a minimum of 4 hours before tracking. When you do track, do so quietly while always scanning ahead.

i shot him october 5 on public land and search a 500 yard radius and a mile in the direction he was headed for two weeks straight and i couldnt find him. it was in mid high marsh but i looked everywhere for him.. someone told me to let him sit for 3-4 hour before tracking him to give him enough time to expire

Try to wait for that broadside or quartering away shot. Quartering towards is just not the best shot with a bow.

You really need to wait for a broadside or quartering away shot. Just too many things that can and do go wrong with a quartering too shot. That arrow could have easily slid behind the shoulder and along the outside of the ribcage. May have never made it to the vitals. Normally, if a deer is quartering to you, he will provide plenty of opportunity for better shot angles. Patience in taking the shot is THE most important element to bowhunting in my opinion.

Was this before or after you only waited an hour to begin tracking?

if that's the only shot you have i would rather jump out of the tree and try to stab the deer with my knife. Might have a better chance at find him after tha as well.

i agree with whats been said. quartering toward you is not a good shot period.. maybe if it was almost right under you so you could sneak the arrow over the top of the shoulder and into a lounge and maybe the heart, but still would not take that shot.. don't know how far down bucks necks swell, but my old man said that when there necks are swollen sometimes they can be as hard as a shoulder blade and even if you do penetrate good the bleeding usually stops because the hole swells shut.. probably why your blood trail ended?

Good question! Always wait for broadside or slightly quartering away! Much higher odds

I would never attempt a quartering towards shot. There is just too much risk of not hitting the animal right. If you know what your doing and feel confident in the shot then I guess its alright, but me personally its a no way. Like others have said broadside or quartering away is always the best.
