from the way he described it it should be dead. that arrow can bounce so far out off that shoulder, makes it loook like a horrible hit.
might take some work, but i have a good feeling about all today....

Good luck Finch. I'm hoping we haven't heard from you yet because you are taking a lot of pictures and dragging him out.

Wow. The suspense is killing me. lol.

Then again, with the heat today, I'm sure when he does find it, he is going to want to get it cleaned out and processed fast. It was 78 at lunch down here in Raleigh. Can't imagine its that much cooler up there.

That's probably why there wasn't a quick response. lol

No luck today fellas. My buddy and I searched from 7:30 until lunchtime. After a 30 minute lunch break...my buddy left and it was just me. Called the wife to bring the pup down to help but that didn't turn out too well. She left and I called it quits at 5:30. 9.5 hrs of straight searching/walking has worn me out. My ass is chapped, legs/feet sore, and I feel like the worst bowhunter ever.

Anyway,I emailed the Newport News deer tracking dog owner early this morning. He replied (while we were searching) and asked if it had rained overnight. I replied no and never got a response back. Gave him my number and he never called. Also, my ad on craigslist looking for a local deer tracking dog yeilded no results but spam.

Took a while to find first blood. You can see where the buck entered the field. That is where we found the arrow..maybe 450 yards from his starting point. 9 inches of arrow/BH remain in this deer. Found a great pool of blood about 250 yrds away before we entered the field but then it was spotty. Tried finding the rest of the blood in the field. We surely didn't think he would jump a fence. So I searched the entire north side of the road to rule that out. Then went on the other side and stumbled upon more good blood but it ended as soon as I found it. Seached all around and down behind the house. No blood or deer.

I'm tired and emotionally drained. I think this is a dead deer but how could he go so far? We'll talking several hundred yards so far.

Red is blood and blue is everywhere we searched.

Like I said...going back in the AM. I'm going to seach that creek good and possibly cross it. I'm open to suggestions/opinions....
