My bow is tuned, I'm not torqueing the bow, my level is straight on every shot. I know my bow shoots to the right and all I have to do is adjust the windage knob 3 clicks to the right and it'll be in the center. My shot group is the same weather its 20 yards or 60 yards. So I'm not sure what it is
Take one broadhead and use it for practice. Practice at different yardages. If you damage that "practice" broadhead than select another actual broadhead for practice. I never trust the practice broadheads of any company none of them look like the actual head. Use an actual head. Buy more. Your gonna need em. Fixed blades fly great!
It's already been said but i'll say it again - you need to shoot some groups with the rage heads themselves (or three practice heads). This is the only way you will determine if the single practice head is to blame. If they all group consistently, regardless of where they hit in relation to your field points then there's no issue with the heads and your bow just needs some precise tuning. I've shot Rages, Killzones and Slick Tricks along with field points so I've done my fair share of tuning, adjustment and comparisons. Rarely will a bow be able to shoot field points and broadheads (fixed or mechanical) and have identical POI across the board. The flight characteristics between field points and any broadhead are not going to be the same in most cases. I've always found that broadheads will hit slightly lower than field points, about an inch at 20 yards, but be dead on with windage. If your practice heads are off a good bit then something is wrong with your bow tune or maybe arrow spine / FOC or could be a single bad head. To eliminate the single bad practice head as the culprit, you need to shoot groups of the practice heads. If you get the rages to group consistently but they're still off with windage, i'd start paper tuning with the rage heads.
This ^^^ Even though you did a walk back tune doesn't mean that you are done in the tuning process. There are many things that go into making that arrow fly perfectly true out of your bow and wings on the tip of the arrow will show that.
I'm not concerned about it not having the same poi as my field points in concerned about it not being consistent. I'll be shooting the actual heads later (weather permitting) to determine whether or not its the head. If they fly better than the practice head I'll know what is going on and I can buy more from there. If they still act insane then of course I'll be looking at my bow and if its fine like it should he I'll be shooting different heads this season.
I just got done doing some target shooting and brought a rage broadhead with me to shoot and the three times I shot it all hit the bulls-eye (was just shooting from 20-25yrds). Flew very similar if not exactly like my field tips.
Have any of you guys noticed certain arrows don't fly like the rest with a BH? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If your bow is tuned I do have a few questions. Did you spin test the arrow to make sure everything is straight? And have you checked the spine on your arrows to make sure they are correct. To much flex can cause this too. I would get a fixed blade broad head and tune that to your field points then try it again. Good luck.
Screw the broadhead on a different arrow and give that a try. Sometimes switching and matching heads to arrows can help. Broadheads that consistently group different than field point groups is often an indication of something slightly out of tune. May be the rest, may be nocking point, etc..
I had cam lean awhile back and it was causing my bh's to group different. As for the rage bh's, they have always shot the same as my fp's.
three of my arrows flew like my fp's, and three flew wonky... using the practice bh from muzzy 125 gr 3 blade fixed
As has been said, try it with the regular heads. Better to buy a set of replacement blades and know for sure. Failing that, I don't know what to tell you other than to go through the whole BH tune process. I shoot G5 montecs and they shoot the exact same POI as my FP out to 40 yards. As a random final note, here is a picture of a new spaceship (but actually Rage's new broadhead for this year). Rage 3-Blade with Kore Technology - Rage Broadheads
The spine is the same I've been shooting since last year. I did spin test the head and it was straight. I put it on all of my new arrows with identical results. Needless to say I gave them to my dad and bought toxics which was my other choice. The only reason I bought the rages is because they came with a practice head. The toxics flew perfectly all the way to 60 yards. I'm not sure what it is about rage but I don't think I'll be using them this season.
I have shot the Rage practice tips and did not care for them because I don't think the accurately represent how the actual broadheads fly. I took a few actual broadheads and shot a 3D Broadhead target at my Archery club to make sure there were no surprises. I still love the original 2 blade rage and have not had any issues with the broaheads. The great thing about the rage broadheads is if you decide you don't like them, give the parent company a call and give them your feedback. In my experience, they will offer to send you a replacement product or refund your money.
