You can't expect field points to fly like a Rage practice head. The dynamics and make up of the two are totally different. Rage gives you a practice heads for practice. Get rid of the field points and buy more practice heads. If you are going to be shooting Rage broadheads, practice with the Rage practice heads. Rage practice heads are designed in similar size and weight so they will fly like the Rage broadheads. I have 6 practice arrows and I have 6 Rage practice heads on them. Get your bow dead on with the Rage practice heads and the Rage broadheads will shoot exactly the same.
I never expected them to fly like a field point, I know it'll have some differences. I did expect it to be a little more consistent and not hit all over the target like it did. I at least expected it to stay in the same region and not go from high to low on every other shot.
You need to shoot a group to really start showing much of a trend. If you're set on Rages, shot three of them together along with your group of field points. If it is truly an issue with that particular head, you will know right away. The inconsistency makes me think it could be something with that head or a form issue. Fwiw, I shoot the same Slick Trick's when tuning that I do in the field. Never lost a deer to a head issue yet. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S4.
I plan on shooting the actual heads tomorrow, I just didn't want to destroy them before I get a chance to take them out
I would rather destroy my broadheads in practice in attempts to get them to fly perfect as compared to hunting with an unpredictable broadhead because I was worried about breaking them up in pratice. No way in heck would I hunt with broadheads that flew erratically.
Just throwing this out there, but are you sure the rages you bought and your field tips are the same weight? I shoot 125gr. And had a 100gr. Killzone laying around, shot it the other day and it hit dead center but about 3" high.
I agree which is why I plan to shoot them tomorrow. I don't believe in using something in not confident in and I don't believe in wounding an animal for no reason.
Yes I'm sure they are both 100gr. I bought them the same day and made sure they were the same weight.
I don't really think it'll get destroyed so much as I do dull. I just bought a brand new bh target yesterday so it should be fine other than getting dull.
the rage practice tip I shot flew very similar to field tips, but it didn't seem to hold up or last very long. I've never shot the actual broad head but after reading I am going to tomorrow to make sure I don't have to adjust anything.
I'm not sure why mine was all over but hopefully the real head flies better. Let me know how yours does and I'll continue to update as well.
you bought rage it tells you how your going to feel right on the package when you purchase them. you will feel lots of rage needless to say I have my opinion on the broadhead itself.
Make sure you are picking a spot. I don't know how, but over this off-season I seem to be snap shooting. Ill just draw get the sight picture and squeeze. Let that pin hover and be sure of were that pin is when you release your arrow. Early in July I thought I had the same issue, but when I realize and focus the arrow goes right were I want it.
its almost similar there.... now this is at 20 yards? do you notice if your arrow fly's straight of alittle like its drunk! id also adjust your windage right to move to the left you might also be torquing your bow slightly right... if you can move out to 30yards and shoot.... see if the pattern changes or just moves more to the right... if this is the case and your arrows seem to fly straight ease up on the grip alittle bit and see what happens... also if you have another mechanical broad-head to try i would... if none of this works you may need to do a paper tune with the head and do further adjustments with your rest!
I never had a problem with the Rage practice heads shooting any different than fp or real broadheads. They do weigh a little heavier tho. My fp's are right on 100 gr and my Rages all weigh 106-107 gr. Shouldn't make that much difference tho. Maybe you got a bad practice head. Hope you get it lined out
This males me think your bow isn't properly tuned. My muzzys were hitting low and left by 3 inches at 20 yards. A small rest adjustment to the right and my issue is solved. An out of tune bow normally shows up when shooting broadheads.
