Just like the title says, got a spike buck today. Not with a bow though. It's the final week of deer season here and its a shotgun week. I have been hitting the woods all season and it finally paid off.

I have anew Mission Balistic on layaway at the local archery shop so, should have a better shooter than my 40 yr old compound I have now.

Story goes, I got set up in my climber around 1:30. Around 2 I look to my left to see a herd of does running through the field into the woods. They are about 150 yards from me. They break and head away from me. I can here them heading through the thick stuff about 200 yards in front of me. All goes silent for about 15 minutes. Then I hear and see them go back the way they came then disappear again. Then around 3 pm, my brother in law, "Johnny come lately" finally arrived to the woods about 400 yards away. He sets up and sends me a text that he's there. Five minutes later I hear a grunt but don't see anything. I blew a grunt back, and within 30 seconds I see the little guy coming down the trail towards me at about 75-80 yards. At 50 yards he stops and raises his head, turns broad side, at which point I raise my gun and put the scope on him, but he is behind a tree, so I wait. He continued in and at about 30 yards, gun still trained on him he paused just long enough for me to draw a bead on his front shoulder. Took the shot and he dropped immediately. I followed ammo manufacturers trajectory and aimed low for the heart, and hit lungs. I was so full of adrenaline...I could barely sleep last night.
