Ditto! Big props for your maturity through this whole process! The good thing is that he's alive and will probably be fine and maybe, just maybe you can get another shot at him later in the season! Good luck the rest of the season!!

    Same here !!

I'm almost as weird with that kinda stuff as my brother..But we were raised with an animal loving mother and had many unusual pets on our farm. Wildlife is amazing. I really feel badly for those who will never experience it like we do !

    Wow. Thank you, Sir !

Missouri ? I'm taking you up on that.. :)

    Maybe !! and thank you.

    You got it !

Well, I hope your deer makes it just fine, as well !!

Again, thanks everyone ! You guys dont know me one bit and you all helped out. Thank you...

I really like the way you put this. I just took up bow hunting mainly to help control an awful pig problem we have here on the ranch I manage. I may not actually pull down on a pig for months however because I refuse to do so until I have absolute confidence in my ability to make a clean kill. I've killed dozens of deer with rifle. Caught thousands of fish. I cannot stand not making a clean kill. Bugs me no end. I thank God above at least I CAN hunt and fish. If I was any more soft hearted I'd have to become a veggytarryun.:violin:

I even feel a little remorse for clean kills, and usually try to reassure myself it's needed thing for proper breeding and number control (I know, funny right?). Showing your prey the respect it deserves, is an extremely honorable thing.

Wow. I'm not the only one. Sometimes I wish I was harder/tougher. Part of me envies guys who seem to truly enjoy killing. But then not really.

Last night, driving home from a supply run into the nearest town ... 100 miles ... I was on the last leg ... a crappy little road with bad curves and worse maintenance. I had two tons in the bed of the 350. I was keeping it under 40 trying to dodge the animals. One old coon dashed out from the roadside brush at exactly the wrong moment and I double thumped him. I was sorry but knew he felt nothing. Especially those dual rears.

A few miles later I saw the eyes but only twenty yards ahead. Luckily I was down to twenty or so. Dagnabit it was momma coon and three littleuns no bigger than large fuzzy rats. I knew I dare not slam on my brakes with the heavy pallet of sand bags and other stuff I was carrying already firmly leaning against my pickup bed front rail. But I braked hard and as the little family disappeared behind my front end I prayed they scampered successfully. Stupid I know but that's the way God made me.

Sorry to hear you didn't claim him. I had a similar situation this week. Posted about it in the forums.

A picture is worth a thousand words. I looked at the picture and his description of the shot/placement, there was no way he hit anything other than rear quad. Doesn't mean the deer lives, just changes the way "I" would have approached the trail.

Saterday 16 Oct 2010 I took this 6 point with the same type of situation. This is my first season bow hunting and the first deer I have taken with a bow. Up to this point I have shot at two others. Missed one completely and was unable to turn up a blood trail on the other. I wasn't it my stand 10 minutes when this guy comes out into view. When I first saw him he was 35 yards away walking the edge of the field. I was about to take the shot when he turned and starting walking right to me. He didn't stop walking untill he was directly under me. When I let the shaft fly my lower cam bumped the stand. The arrow hit slightly high and to the left of where I was aiming. This caused the arrow to pass through his laft shoulder and out his chest never penatrating the chest cavity or passing completly through. I found this out after gutting him. I waiting a half hour before getting out of the stand. When I got down I couldn't believe the blood trail that he had left for me. I found my arrow 25 yards from where the shot took place and he was laying about 30 yards from the arrow. I was using 3 bladed rages'. The broad head is no longer usable but am quite happy with the wound channel that it left.
