Saturday morning I awoke to a dense fog and mid 30's. What a beautiful morning to spend a few hours in a tree. I was going to sneak out for a few hours before I headed down to spend the weekend with my buddy at his engagement party. I settled in about 6:45 just as light was breaking. About 7:15 I spot a nice buck making his way across a pasture I was hunting. He crossed in front of me at about 60 yards and I had my can call out and tried to get his attention. He wanted nothing to do with it so as he continued past me I snort wheezed to try and get his attention. He jumped straight up and stared in my direction, looking for a fight. He took a few step closer my way to about 40 yards. At this point I had bow in hand as I thought he was working my way. He took a few steps closer and then turned down the field edge. I finally got my grunt tube dug out of my pack and a few deep grunts and he made a complete 360 and headed on a bee line right past my stand. He stopped broadside, 15 yards away, staring into the woods past me, still looking for another buck. I let the string fall and watched him pile up about 40 yards away in the middle of the field. This is my biggest buck to date as well as the first one I have called in to a shot. What an exciting hunt. I always wondered how those TV guys always have everything go just right and this happened to be one of those rare moments where it goes according to plan. 11 points Scored it at 123 even.
That's an awesome buck, congrats! That fog yesterday morning was crazy. Where I was at I couldn't see further than 100 yards until about 9 AM, and until about 745 I couldn't see farther than 40. Great job though, it's fun calling them in!!
