Oops, forgot all about that time change. I shot him on my home 50 acres. The winds were out of the south yesterday so I sat in a stand on the north side of a bedding area. With the 3 does that came out and crossed onto the neighbors' property before they got to me, I was totally amazed he didn't follow them. Another 2 hours and I can start looking.

Now, for more of the story.....
After the doctor told me I shouldn't shoot a compound anymore because he said I don't have any cartledge in my right shoulder I sold my bow. My son, who is the greatest, bought the bow and left it here. He told me he wanted me to get another opinion before the bow left the property. A couple weeks ago I shot a doe (which I never found) with the crossbow and those old feelings started coming back to me that this (in my opinion only) was NOT bow hunting. The thing shoots at 420 fps w/102 ft/lbs of KE. Anyway, last night when I went to the stand I took the Reezen. When the buck came in, I used my knee to hold the bow while I drew it back with my left arm. All I had to do is keep the right arm extended when I raised it up to take aim. I had purchased some blood runner broadheads and that is was on the arrow that hit that buck. I have another hour or so before it's daylight, I've had 4 travel mugs of coffee, and I am anxious to get out there!

Thanks to all for the positive comments and hopefully w/i an hour of sunrise, I'll have pics to post.

Oh, and I started growing a beard in September vowing not to shave it off until I shot a buck this season or the season ended. To help pass the time, I shaved it off this morning which pleased the wife.

Hope you're staring at him now wondering how the heck you're going to get that big guy back to the house. 300lbs is a lot of deer!

UPDATE: Found the broken arrow. Waiting on NON colorblind people to get here to help me out! Measured the other arrows and he still has 12" w/blood runner in him. The recovered part is caked w/dried blood and hair. I know he's down, what I don't know is WHERE!!!!

Awesome news, that would be tough to track being color blind. May have tried to circle back around to where he initially came from.

Here's a map. White dot is stand, blue line is the line he came in on, the gray line is the line the does took, the yellow dot is where we found the broken arrow. We searched the draws coming out of the creek bottom to the west of the creek and the whole bedding area. Now, did he head north again or south???? There is nothing further west for him to have cover. I have a feeling he may have continued north into the sanctuary????

Which direction was the wind blowing ? He basically doubled back, after you shot ?

Think thick nasty blowdowns or cover. You are going to find him, but you might not have too big of an exit wound if you hit the offside shoulder. I bet he is dead pretty close to that arrow.

Do you know where he bedded that would be a good place to look. Looks like he was headed back to his safe zone. I'd say he didn't turn back North, doubt he would go all that way only to try to head back to where something threatened him.

Iowa, with all of the deer that we have shot this year (3 total), they have all ran in a half circle and almost doubled back to try and get a look at where the noise came from or what shot them. They all did this at about 60-100 yards. I hope this helps.
