Guys, I recently gave my '09 PSE Brute to a friend who has gotten into archery and can't afford to buy one. So its time for a new one. Heres the catch, my DL is short...25-25.5". I stopped at my local shop this weekend and shot a Hoyt Rampage XT. It was nice, but I just wasn't crazy about it. What other decent options are out there in the say $600 range (bare bow)? I was possibly thinking of picking up a higher end used bow but again, I'm not really sure who makes bows w/ short DL other than Bear and PSE. I had an Assassin for about 6 months and loved it, but the DL bottomed out at 26" and it just wasn't comfortable to shoot at that DL. Basically, I'm just looking for ideas so that when I head back to the bow shop this week I am not completely lost. Thanks

If you liked the assassin look at the assassin SD

PSE makes a couple of bows that have that short of a DL, the EVO SD is a nice choice but they run $850 bare.

I just checked out the Assassin SD. It wasn't out yet when I had mine. Might be an option. I am going back to my local archery shop tomorrow, so I may shoot the evo to see hoe it feels, then keep an eye out for a used one. Anyone heard anything about the Hoyt CRX 32?

Most major companies make at least one bow if not several in your DL range. With that short of a DL take a look at the Mathews Mcpherson series MR5 or MR6. With the short DL you will not be ill effected by the short BH and you would benefit from the extra speed. They are great bows from short DL people. You should be able to find one used for around $500-$600 that is in good shape.

The bow shop should be able to drop brands and models off the top of their head. Test as many as you can! Shoot the CRX32 and think about how the Rampage XT felt... Worlds of difference.

The CRX32 is amazing, but they are a bit more than $600. If you can find one, a maxxis 31 with the Z3 cam's will fit you that is if you aren't against a used bow. The evo sd is also a good bow, you can't go wrong either way.

Thanks guys, I looked into the MR5 and 6. I've never shot a bow w/ less thatn a 7" brace height and damn their ibo speeds are fast. I still haven't shot the CRX32, but I see them going for well under $600 used. I shot a used '10 z7 this weekend and though it was super nice, I couldn't get over the $750 price tag for a 2yr old used bow. I have off tomorrow, so I'm going a bow shop that I have never been to. They carry everything but Bear bows. I want to give some of the mid level PSE bows a try. I'm sure am cutting it close, the seasons gonna be here before we know it.
