I sometimes wished the bed on my Crewmax was longer, but by the time I put my trailer behind it I'm not sure I would want to continually negotiate parking lots, drive thrus, backing out of driveways etc. I do some landscaping on the side and some of the neighborhoods can be a pain to park and turn around. I actually have one neighborhood that I mow in, I generally use the Saturn Vue due to parking. We use my truck for Vacations, Parking decks are out of the question (for me) with a full size 4 door with alonger bed.
I can fit everything I need in my 5.5 ft. I can even put my kayak in the back. It's 11'3 and I just angle it out the back. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think the short beds look good, but I'd never own one. I just do too many things where the extra length is useful. I'm not into long beds, but Ford's 6.5' bed seems just about perfect. Plus I can fit my ATV into the back of my 6.5' bed and just barely close the tailgate. With a short bed I'd be doing the tailgate down and ratchet strap thing which sucks, I'm always thinking about my buggy coming out of the back of the truck when I do that. My next truck will be a Ford with the SuperCrew and a 6.5' bed. I'll order one if I have to. There is a 2015 Lariat locally in this configuration that I've been eyeballing that I love. Just can't bring myself to do it when I paid my current truck off early and it's still running perfectly.
I went with the long bed on on my taco and sometimes I wish it was longer.... Short bed trucks are only good for trail riding. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Have e short bed tundra crew max, if I need to haul something longer I can put the back window down and have it slide into the cab. I have never once wished I had a longer bed, and have never once wished my cab was smaller.
First off I'm contractor so my situation is a little different, but I would never buy a truck with out a long bed ( 8 foot ). I have a trailer too, but it is such a pain to use all the time. The first time you go to pick up plywood or drywall and just throw it in the bed and shut the tailgate. Without having to use any straps, you will be in love with the long bed, and wonder why you didn't get sooner. With parking you get use to the size of the truck really fast and can park any where any smaller truck can. Just a little harder to park in the city or a parking garage, but how often do you go there. We just use the wife's car anyway. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Deflate the tires slightly to be able to slam the gate shut then air em back up when you get there. My first truck was an 8 ft bed single cab truck. Everything since has been the short bed version (5.5' for F150s and 6.5' for F250). My Tacoma is the long bed but even that is only 6 ft I believe. I've never had an issue hauling something where I'm thinking that extra 6" sure would have made the difference right now. My needs have always been "No way it all fits I'm taking the trailer" or "That will easily fit". Not much in between.
Thanks, everyone. You did nothing for me :D Jk. Almost pulled the trigger on one. It was in transit to the dealer but sold by the time I made an offer. High demand Toyotas. May drive back down and test drive another F150. Maybe I can make the shortbed work.
I have a Chevy Colorado 4x4 Crew Cab and it has a short bed but it does what I need it to do. I haven't put down a deer yet but I guess when I do if it's enough space. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I guess I should update this. On Tuesday I put a deposit down a on a '16 Tundra DC. I traded my truck in and they gave me a '15 F150 SCREW (ironic) to drive until my truck gets in sometime in October (currently being built). Will update with pictures once I take delivery.
I always laughed a little when picking up lumber at the lumberyard watching all these nice trucks loading and having to have everything tied down on the tailgate. when I would just lift the hatch on my Grand Caravan with the seats out and throw in a few full sheets of plywood or 8ft lumber and close the hatch back down and drive away.
I picked up 6 bags of shavings, deer feed, birdseed, and oats and I still have room in the longbox, have to love a full size pickup.
