So I am a big fan of the Mathews z7 xtreme and hopefully towards the end of the summer I'll be able to land one.
I really like the short ATA but still good brace height, I'm no expert shooter. Shooting out of a ground blind will be a huge addition for me this year, and they just seem a lot easier to manuever in the stand than my 34" ata.
My question is this: Is there anything that compares to the z7x? Mainly focused on the ATA, obviously the CRX32 is a competitor but the Mathews has 4 inches on it. I don't know a lot of the brands that are less common and don't want to miss out on a similar bow becasue I didn't know any better.

Shorter is not always better but it is personal preference. There are a flood of short bows to choose from by all manufactures.

BowTech, Hoyt (Carbon Element as well as the CRX32, Maxxis 31) and PSE

I'd spend plenty of time shooting the bow I was going to buy to make sure I was completely happy with it.

    Thanks Dan,
I will be shooting plenty. In my hunting conditions shorter would just be so much more helpful. I also have a shorter draw and am not that tall. The PSE bow madness xs i like as well, except they made it taller for 2011! lol.
I'm really looking at under 30 inches. However, I kow that shorter ATA bows are less forgiving and that's one reason i like the z7x, the brace height helps.

All the guys here at work shoot hoyts and bowtechs, but they all shoot 3D and hunt in rather open areas, my woods just isn't set up for that.

No problem! I just know that sometimes 1st impressions are misleading.

Exactly! I don't want to miss out on something like a strother, alien, ... because there are a lot of very good brands i've never heard of.

    I have a 22" ATA bow that I love.

TNT Revolution next to my Bowtech Equalizer

I had it set up for hunting.... but didn't deer hunt with it because I need a different rest. When I missed a deer while hunting from the ground because my Bowtech's bottom limb smacked the ground.... I was really wishing I had the little bow.

It's a TNT Revolution bow. The TNT is a forgiving bow with generous brace height. It's not a fast bow... but if you want a bow for tight places... This is it. :)

I have three PSE pocket bows and love all three. My Vendetta XS is one of the nicest bows I have ever shot (coming in at 29.5" ATA and burns arrows out at @ 330-335 fps). I also have two PSE X-Force Super Shorts (GX cams). I have one set at 74lbs and the other set at 58 lbs. I use the heavier bow for all day spot and stalk hunting and the lighter bow on turkeys when I'm ground blind hunting. The ATA on the X-F SS is 26.5". The pocket bows should not be confused with toys. They are extremely deadly in the right, tight, places!

The last two bows have been 31 and slightly over 30 ATA. I like the shorter bows for hunting on the ground. I can get tucked into some pretty tight spots that can be tough to maneuver in with a longer bow. The shorter ATA bows work well for this.
