Time for a replacement as mine just broke tonight. Which type of release do you use, a hook style or a jaw type and why? I've always used a hook style as it just seemed faster to put on the string.

I was shooting a Scott Silverhorn w/NCS connection and absolutely loved it! It is a hook stlye release, it has a nice crisp release feel to it and is easy to hook up. The ONLY thing I can complain about it does not reset on its own, but its not that big of a deal...its second nature after shooting a couple times. Well I guess I could have one more complaint, its no longer mine as the Girlfriend has now taken it over......haha!!

I know have a TruBall Copperhead on the way, simply because I got a good deal on it. I figure I will give it a try and if I dont like it, there will be no question I will order another Scott Silverhorn!!

    Gd Luck!!

I also have a Truball Copperhead and highly recommend it. If you opt for that, find a buckle strap over the velcro strap.

I also have the Scott Wildcat. Fantastic release but I love the spring shut jaws of the Copperhead slightly more.

I've been shooting a Scott Sabertooth going on 4 years now and I love it. It's a dual-caliper style release with a forward trigger, which means the trigger is very close to the head of the release. This allows me to trigger with my knuckle rather than the tip of my finger, which I find to be more comfortable and hopefully more accurate. It also allows you to squeak in a little extra draw length as well.

Of course there's a ton of releases on the market, most of which are well made and will do the job. As usual, I'd recommend checking out as many as possible and seeing which you like the best.

For a mech. release......I loved the one Justin uses (for the same reasons listed).

Good luck, Rick......and let me know if you're back down this way.

Another Scott fan here. I'm shooting the little bitty goose and love it. Like Justin said, small head profile so you can really "get into" your anchor, so to speak. I love the straight trigger on it as well.

I like a hook style release because you really don't need to look at your string to hook up, however, after a little shooting you can do that same with a caliper style release. As far as performance goes, there really is no difference

I'll toss in another vote for the Scott Sabertooth. Justin's description is spot-on. I've been shooting mine for three years now and it's awesome.

I just switched to a Tru ball pro diamond thumb trigger. It is taking a little getting used to, with some micro adjustments getting the trigger set and positioned how I want it to feel. That is a good thing though as I'm able to customize it to fit. I was using a index trigger release that I tended to slap the trigger. I think making the switch will help improve my form and concentration.

I'll never switch from my Scott silverhorn in the foreseeable future. I have two of them in the buckle strap w a metal post connection rather than the webbing strap. Love love love them, quick easy connecting to the string without looking down at the string!

Well it was a toss up between the new Tru Ball The Beast, The New Sport Hog by Wise Guy, the Silverhorn and the Sabertooth. I wasn't able to get hands on trials with all but I choose the Sabertooth. Thanks for all the suggestions from everyone.
Sorry Justin, but I had two $50 gift cards from Xmas I had forgot about. I got the 18-1 target here through and if I had remembered I had those cards I would have used them for that and got the release from here. But I'm not done shopping yet. LOL.
