I've had the same bow for about the past ten years its a Hoyt Magnatec w command cams. It shoots really well and is still dead accurate and I've taken several deer with it but I'm looking to buy a bow with a shorter axle to axle length for my treestand and ground blind. I haven't been following new products much in the last few years was looking at the PSE sinister. Any feedback on this choice or any other recommendations would be appreciated and helpful
If I was looking for a "short" bow I would look at the mathews ZXT. I have a friend with one and it's a nice shooting rig. I guess everyone's opinion of short can vary though.
I shot the Sinister at BPS before I bought my PSE DRIVE, very light and fast bow. The RTS package is hard to beat.
I have a mathews z7 xtreme and just absolutely love it. Depending on your budget, you're in this at a good time. With the new bows coming out, a lot of last year's bows are being sold cheap. As far as the Mathews lineup: ZXT Creed XS If you don't mind used, look at the z7 xtreme. Don't end at Mathews though hoyt has some new offerings that are small. I really want to shoot the carbon spyder 30, but I bet the spyder 30s are cheaper now. The best advice I can give you is to get your parameters... ATA, brace height... and list all the bows within those specs, then go shoot them. If you're not sure on the brace height, take your time and shoot different brace heights. Some people will swear it doesn't matter, but I seem to think it does. Take your time. Shoot a lot. Buy the one you like the most, but try them all. Mathews may be my favorite, but there are other companies for a reason.
I'm a PSE guy...and personally...I didn't like the Sinister at all. It was too short for me. I have the Revenge which is right at 30" ATA and a 340 IBO and I love it. Taken 5 with it this year...love it. If your wanting a shorter ata bow...look at the new PSE Premonition. Its a 6.25" brace height, 30 ATA, and a 344 IBO. Brand new retail is $699 I think. You can get it cheaper if you look around. I think I'm going to pick one up in a few months. It's almost the same specs as my Revenge. Anyway, its up to you. PSE are great bows IMO, Most on here on Mathews. I like the smaller grips and how hard the PSE's shoot. I also like Hoyt a lot as well. Have you looked at Hoyts?
The Strother Wrath sho is a short bow with a large brace height and still an IBO of 335. Absolute solid back wall. I shot it and will be looking to acquire one after seasons end. Obsession sniper is another good one.
The Wrath SHO is a great bow. A local shop here is a huge strother dealer, he's by far the best around too.
If you haven't shot a smaller ATA bow yet it would be a smart idea to try one out first. Most of my friends who made the switch were not fans. Just shoot a bunch of bows and decide what fits you best. Good luck!
Going to shoot the bows is my next step been reading and checking up on what's available to narrow my search a little I know I want a shorter ATA than I have now but I need a taller brace with a 60 to 70 lb draw.
I do like my Hoyt as I've kept it for over 10 years with no problems with it its a solid bow I just need somethin shorter for my blind. I've been doin the homework trying to see what's available with what Im looking for before I start looking one of my biggest problems is the Archery pro shops where I live are few and far between not impressed with the staff at the Basspro near me so I'm gonna have to make a day and do some traveling to find what I want
I have been reading up on a few different bows trying to narrow my search the next step will be to find a good archery shop where I can try out a few before I choose one. my parameters are short ata taller brace height with a 60 to 70 lb draw. My biggest problem is finding a decent archery shop around me I'm not impressed with the Bass Pro staff near me the nearest pro shop is a bit of a trip but one Im willing to make to get a good bow
Definitely check out the obsession line, if you can find a dealer near you. Around here dealers are a little rare in that line of bows. Their new 2014s coming out look awesome in my opinion. I have the Sniper LT, and love it. There are alot of good bows on the market though, and you need to be comfortable with whatever you choose.
I just retired my Havactec, still a solid bow .. I just felt it was time to upgrade Ended up buying the Mathews Heli m I love this thing so far and was surprised how much faster it is compared to my Hoyt I would find someone in your area that is knowledgable enough to set up your bow either at a pro shop or just an individual .. Unless you can do this yourself Pick out what you want, then call around .. Most places will give better price if you ask Around here, there's a lot more places selling bows than people who are capable of setting them up Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If I may, google xpedition archery. Brand new company, started Jan 2013. I have one, after seeing mine a few buddies have followed suit. And now they have come out with 2 more bows, with another 2 coming out in January. Now all of our hunting buddies want one of the new ones. Bow is fast (which realistically every bow is now). But what I love is its super super quite, that's what impresses everyone when I'm shooting at the range. And its totally dead in your hand. I shoot a really light arrow set up, total weight is under 380grains at 30" long. Some argue that will make a bow louder, well that is all I have fired from this bow, so I don't know how much more quite it can get. Also awesome customer service, I shot a old arrow and like a idiot never checked the arrow closely. It had a crack and it snapped during a fire. This caused the bow to dry fire basically. I sent it to xpedition, they evaluated the bow, and replaced everything that needed to be. They were very reasonably priced, and even re installed all my accessories like peep, sights, rest etc. I like to be different, try something new. All the big brands feel the exact same to me.
