I unknowingly shot a buck in Dec. that had shed his horns. Had I known, I would have passed and let him grow another yr. In fact, I didn't even know he was a buck, till I rolled him over to gut him. You can't expect to shoot trophys if you takem out early.
I'm new to this thread so, hello all. I had to say YES, YES, YES!! I only get to go out a few times a year so, I'm not letting anything walk. Bowhunting is tough and you have to put a lot of time in scouting and planning, right place, right time. I'm a meat hunter and I can't eat no antlers.
Is that because of hunting pressure? Too many hunters taking too many woods, or is that in the 3.5 yr span they are at their maximum size? What avg. size/points is a 3.5 yr old deer by you? Don't know if you've heard of the size of trophy deer taken out of Buffalo County in Wi. But a large part of land owners up there do the quality management and they produce really big deer, but they don't shoot them till they're 4-5 yrs old. When talking trophy, I mean 14pt and up. That part of Wi is known for the size of deer taken, and the cost to hunt there is just as well known.
